Dash Trim Kits

Anyone get one? What style did you get and are you happy with it? I thought of getting a brushed aluminum trim kit. What is a reasonable price? Thanks in advance.

I thought the Fusion came with an aluminim dash trim option. The Milan comes with aluminum standard and optional "wood" is available.

 

Tell you what: You would do better by getting OEM quality if you're going to do something like this. You wouldn't have to be concerned with heat/UV damage or fit/finish issues. Try to locate (dealer would have it, but it'd probably be pricey) a wrecked Milan via a body shop, etc... or call a body shop and ask for an estimate. They should be able to order a part like that at a decent rate.

 

Note that there is an aesthetic drawback with the aluminum interior trim: your stereo ends up sticking out like a big black box in the dash. One review I read about the Milan interior griped about that, but it's not too big of an issue.

Nice pic. The aftermarket kit I was looking at looks like it includes more pieces than the OEM one. You can see a diagram of the trim pieces here.. http://www.edashkit.com/shop/

 

You have to look up your specific vehicle, but once you do, click on the small diagram on the left and it will show all the included pieces.

Uhhh... I don't know, man. That's a lot of stickers. Don't be fooled: just because it says "aluminum" doesn't mean it's made of aluminum... it's still a cheap plastic adhesive. I wouldn't take the chance with it. Definitely screw up your interior if it doesn't adhere right. On top of that, it's just A LOT of little stickers. Too much.

I called and asked because my Fusion has a brushed metal stereo surround (I4 SE appearance package) and I wanted matching left and right side dash pieces. When I called, they flat told me their pieces are all flat.

I need to look at the Milan pieces to see if they will match, I think they are a lighter silver than the Fusion piece

You can always take your dashboard apart, use a plastic primer on the pieces you want done, and shoot them with an automotive paint (don't use a can of spray paint... get real exterior car paint). A friend of mine did that about four years ago to dash parts on his Mustang and they came out looking like high gloss fiberglass. Matched the color of the car too.

 

The plastic primer he used was something called "Bulldog."

You are correct, I asked about them and the pieces are flat. But I was looking at the dash and the pieces they offer don't look like they need to be molded. At least the pieces that count. Also, they are supposed to be very thin, almost like aluminum can thin so as not to look like a stick on.

I also asked about the color and they said the brushed aluminum is actually a picture of aluminum imposed on the stickers. However, there is a real brushed aluminum kit available that is actual aluminum. That's what I'm looking at. I guess we'll see. I just better not procrastinate too long, otherwise I'll lose interest and forget the whole idea. lol

Most (reputable) kits I have seen have a rounded (contoured) edge on the pieces so they do not look like a flat sticker applied. Below is a pic of brushed nickel to give you an idea...you also have the option of using the radio surround piece or not, here it was applied..

The place I used is no longer around but my kit is a 'SHERWOOD' brand. The link below also uses the SHERWOOD brand which is the same brand the dealers use if you had one dealer installed. Their schematic shows the radio piece with this kit. They have other colors available other than this one listed for auction. Price is about the same as mine cost $195.00 over a year ago....Yes there are cheaper ones but with something like this you get what you pay for. My kit still looks like the day it was installed.

If you want to see all the choices, go here. Be sure to look for sun and heat protection, cracking and fade protection. Look for a "molded" appearance in the photos. Most of these guys are just resellers so might not know that much, but to avoid going down the rabbit trail of finding a quality product, you might correspond with these guys. Nothing is more upsetting than removing a trim kit after about a year due to fade, cracking, warping:
