Minor problems?

Any of you who have read my posts know how much I love my FFH, but I must admit, all of the minor little problems I have experienced would probably be enough to turn off someone who just wants a high mileage car and doesn't appreciate much else about his/her car. I've had mine for 16 months and have 23K miles. In this time, I have had to repair:

 

> Steering wheel button for SYNC system that had to be reset THREE TIMES when it failed to activate SYNC.

> Gas cap door that needed to be replaced when a bolt came loose, leaving the gas cap door hanging.

> Auto-up windows that have needed to be repaired TWICE when they failed to work.

> Rear passenger grab handle that needed to have the spring replaced.

> Passenger power seat button broke off despite hardly being used.

 

No, I won't be left stranded by any of these. But these are just the type of issues that cause people to buy Toyotas or Hondas. I guess I am just wondering why Ford is not being more careful about these little things so that owners can focus on all the wonderful features on the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced similar failures in your FFH?

I haven't had any of your problems but I've had a few minor annoyances of my own.

 

My minor problems:

- Driver side door handle keyless unlock won't unlock half of the time, all other doors work fine though.

- Auto wipers come on randomly when there is no rain and not a cloud in the sky. They'll only come on for one swipe.

- MFT screen beep level will be loud sometimes and very quite other times.

- Rattle sound comes and goes around passenger front door.

 

Other than that I am loving the car. I do hope these minor quality issue are fixed in the future though.

People get stuck on brands - my Prius was fine and still going strong at 210k, however my parents have had Toyota Sienna x 2, Corolla, and Venza - been to dealer many times for nuisances like the above, but they are still stuck on the Toyota-Quality paradigm - and I think the owner-reported-problem stats still back that up don't they?

 

But with all that said, Ford has done a 'good' job with the Fusion but not a 'great' job due to plenty of nitnoid things like the OPs above have noted. The driver seat lower cushion latches on my wife's Energi came undone a few months ago (how the heck does that happen?) and the seat was replaced, and then just this morning I noticed the same thing has now occurred on my Energi (so I guess a seat replacement is on the way for me too) -- so that moves me away from thinking 'fluke' to 'faulty design/materials'... so the Fusion model is nice and I would still recommend it to others, but does seem to show indications of 'mass production' and the inherent glitches in these little things.

You CAN shut them OFF......right ?? :)

 

So far my Fusion has been to the shop once.....for a failed HVAC fan.

It's about 3 months old now.

 

Over the years, I've had about every brand of car made......well at least the common ones.......and the Toyota's have been the most trouble free.

The Corolla is the only one I've ever driven over 100K miles.

My present Prius C is about 6 months old and the first shop visit will be for an oil change.

Yep. It's not a big deal, just an annoyance and something you'd think shouldn't be an issue. But glitches happen so what are you going to do.

I had 2 appliances in the past. For what they cost I was less than thrilled with the quality of materials. Nothing broken or that should be replaced, just everything felt Cheap. When I compared the 2010 Fusion to the 2009 Appliance, the material quality alone on the Fusion was much higher, and other than a hung caliper, they were both trouble free. Compae the material in the HyTi to the same year appliance, and the difference is clear, quality of material is still higher in the Ford. Now if only Ford can make the material stay together......

But what's the point of referring to another model car as an "appliance" ??

I'm sure that will confuse some people.......and probably not accurately convey what you are trying to say to much of anybody.

I felt the same way about the materials in the Camry Hybrid when I cross-shopped the two vehicles. There was no way I could purchase the Camry after comparing it to the Fusion.

Keep in mind, when I started this thread, it was NOT to say that I don't love my FFH, I'm just frustrated at how the careless build flaws blemish an otherwise flawless vehicle.
