Next new "Tech" Feature

So with the '15 order guide out, it doesn’t look like there will be any new Tech added to the Fusions for at least a year. What do you think the next new optional tech will be? I am hoping that the European “City Stop” (The car can stop on its own at low speed) becomes an option. I live in rural area so I would love it if they added a FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) option for deer spotting. Anybody else see any new tech on the horizon coming to the Fusions?

Ford was amongst the leaders in deploying lots of new tech in affordable main stream cars like the Fusion. I applaud them for that but on the downside if delivery schedules take precedence over testing then quality and reliability issues will be the result. This happened to Ford and I saw it happen many times in the computer company that I worked for. In my opinion, much of the criticism was justly deserved and some of it was overblown and false perception. There is always risk with being a leader.

 

Ford now appears to be refocusing on quality and reliability to rebuild their reputation. Only speculation on my part, but I would guess we will see slower deployment of new tech features in the next several model years.

I think you are right, MFT being the largest goof in recent years. Since MFT controls nearly every aspect of the car save for starting it and driving it, any glitch in the system can be maddening for the average person, we see it quite often on this forum. By Ford not perfecting it and rushing it to market to Compete with what Toyota has in theirs, with many flaws, it hurt them more than helped them. Of course now, a few years later, they finally have most of the bugs worked out. It is still a buggy system for some items, but it is working a lot better. The fact they dont have Applink for it is another thing. If anything I would like that feature available in all MFT/MLT cars.

 

I do like the city stop feature, however it is also one of those features that can be a really trouble maker. You get used to a car that will prevent you from rear-ending someone, then drive a car without it, and BAM you wind up crashing. Just remember, every electronic gizmo added is just one more system that can make it difficult to repair. Check the forum, there are several threads where one thing isnt working, and they tear half the car apart trying to repair it, only to give up and replace the car.

yea, Applink would be nice, but that is actualy old tech that just hasn't been included yet. As far as the the tech not working as it should, this was more of a "I wish / I think they might add this" than "don't add anything else until they get the current stuff working" thread

Inter-dimensional interior space. Think bigger on the inside than the outside, like a tardis. This way I could get all my 3 gun gear in the FFH instead of having to take my truck to matches!

Windshield elec defrost For the northen people

Other fords have it.

It takes a bit to look past the squigly wires running down the entire windshield but i'd imagine it would work well.

Not sure if this is a feature they can offer here! Maybe there is some regulation that doesn't allow for "object" in the windshield.

 

It's quite common in European car models and pretty cool. You can only see the very fine wires if you look closely they disappear under normal conditions.

I'm hoping Ford ditches Microsoft and ports MyFordTouch to the superior QNX system instead.

 

I was recently in an iDrive-equipped BMW (based on QNX in the current gen) and the system works really well.

Its called low speed follow and I was surprised and sort of class actiony law suit where the automatic cruise kicks off at 20 KM/h... Uhh shouldn't it just go all the way down to zero? We know the module does work at low speeds too for collision warning I've had it go off at a mere 8 or so KM/h.

 

Better lane keeping would be nice also... It doesn't need to wait until I'm over the line to keep me in my lane... If you can see the lanes you can see pretty much where center is and it should stay there more easily.

 

Self driving would be great, hoping my next car will be self driving
