Ordered my FFH SE this week!

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon,

This is my first post on this forum, as I just joined today. I'm currently deployed to the Middle East, and I ordered my FFH SE on Wednesday. I am told that it will take 8-10 weeks for delivery. That works for me since I will be home in 11 more weeks! Here's a summary of what I ordered:

2014 FFH SE

Deep Impact Blue w/luxury package

Dune leather heated seats (not certain if they are the cooled ones too. I only just read about those on here today)

Power moon roof w/universal garage door opener

Tech package with voice activated navigation

Remote start

Heated steering wheel

I got to test drive one when I was home on R&R over the holidays. During my test drive, which was 20 minutes of combined highway and city, I averaged 48 mpg, according to the trip computer. I've always been a gas conscious driver, so I am hopeful it will transition well into the style needed to drive a hybrid.

After reading just a few of the threads, it is clear that there is a ton to learn about this vehicle. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for having this forum for people like me to learn!

Kevin

Also just wanted to add...

I have never purchased a brand new vehicle before. When I first deployed, my old car finally got to the point where it would cost more to repair it than I would get out of it. I knew I wanted a Ford because I am a huge a of the company for many reasons. When I got orders to a place that is five hours from where my family lives, I decided to focus on mpg. I had wanted an F150 until that point, but driving at least 600 miles per week wouldn't make any financial sense for me and my family. I hadn't previously driven a Fusion, so it really wasn't on my radar. I came across an article that showed an estimated 47mpg, and started looking into it. When I went home and test drove it, I was struck by the fact that I felt like I was in a luxury car, albeit at a much lower price tag. After my inner debate on the features and color that I wanted in the car, I finally sent a check to the dealer this week to start the ordering process. I'm really nervous for several reasons. First, this is my first brand new car, and a big financial commitment. Second, even though hybrid technology has been around for a little while, the latest FFH has relatively new hybrid technology. The warranty on the hybrid power plant makes me feel better. And lastly, when making a commitment like this, you always wonder if you are choosing the car that's perfect for you. I am pretty confident it is, but there are always going to be doubts, at least until I am driving the new car and experiencing it for myself.

Welcome Kevin, I did the same thing on a deployment in 2004, spent my downtime doing car research and then got one shortly after returning - I think you made a good choice, as we are on Ford hybrids (including PHEV) #4 (same color as your order) and #5 and they have been great for us.

Welcome and congrats on your order! I believe that cooled seats are only an option on the Titanium trim :(

I can live without the cooled seats. It would have been pretty sweet though. My favorite thing about the test drive was the leaves and vines. I felt like the drive was a constant challenge to up the MPG.

If you would really like the cooled seat option it can probably still be added. IIRC options can be changed until the window sticker / vin is generated.

Give it a try...

The leaves are fun for a while but the get old quick. There are other also very interesting screen that help you more in maximizing your MPG.

Oh yeah and welcome to the forum :)

If you didnt get it, the Push button start is a really nice feature. Never take the key out of your pocket, just push the button and go. It also (I think) combines the remote start into the same FOB, where I do believe the added remote start is a separate FOB? Not sure, but I think a few here have had that option added.

In any case, you will love the car, I think it is the best of all the Hybrids out there today. My only regret is that mine isnt the Energi model, but then again it would have cost me much more than any savings it would accrue.

It has the push button start. My wife has that feature on her 2011 Durango, and I like it a lot. I always find myself reaching for the keys when we stop though lol. I thought about the energi as well, but the cost made me shy away. In addition, I thought I read that the electric range is more tailored towards people with a shorter commute. I will be stationed 300 miles from my family when I get back from the Middle East, so I'll be driving 600 miles round trip just about every weekend.

Congratulations on your Fusion order. But most of all, thank you for your military service.

+1!

+2.

Highway driving is very comfortable in the Fusion. Since you plan to do a lot of it, the hybrid is the better choice over the Energi. You are going to love this car. Nice to have something to look forward to coming home.

Welcome and thanks for your service, Kcouture. I ordered mine ~6 months ago after researching it for a few months and I feel like I definitely made the right choice. Hopefully you'll feel the same way when you get yours.

If you can keep your speed at or below the speed limit, you should be able to get pretty good MPG on your long commute.

Congratulations on the new car! I hope you love it.

Don't get the extended warranty JUST for the battery. The standard warranty for hybrid parts is 8 years/100k.

Congrats! There are a number of topics about extended warranties. Type "extended warranty" into the search box and you'll find lots of information about whether it is worth it and also ways to get the best deal on an extended warranty should you decide to purchase one.

Latest update:

My dealer emailed me last night and informed me that my new FFH is on a train headed for NC, and should be there the first week of April! I am due to get back from the Middle East in 7 weeks, so I'm glad the car will be ready for pick up as soon as I get back.

I'm trying to learn as much as I can on this forum prior to picking up the car so that I know all the pros, cons, tips, and features before I start driving it. I'm intrigued by the grill cover, although I don't know that I possess the skill to make one for myself. Are there places to find one for sale? I will also see if the dealer could somehow throw in a donut spare and jack assembly. If not, I will get one after market. I will have a long commute each week, so I would like the sense of security that comes along with having the spare.

Just pick up a bag or two of the foam pipe insulation and stuff it in the grill. Seems to work better than the covers since ti closes the grill completely, and is easy to remove.

My car arrived at the dealership yesterday! My salesman was nice enough to email me a picture. I still won't be home for a month to pick it up, but I'm glad to know it's waiting there for me. Not the best quality picture, but at least I can see the car that I special ordered. Very excited!

Thanks for your service, and congrats on the new FFH! If you are going to be making that long commute each weekend, make sure to customize your left screen with the view shown below. It will let you see how you're doing in 5 minute increments over a 30 minute period. If you watch your speed, you should be able to do very well.

Again, congrats and best of luck!
