Is EV+ useful for you? Battery Charging? Two Question>

For Ford Fusion Hybrid>>

 

1. I do not find this useful. All it does is drain the battery way too far so when you start the car for next ride, ICE needs to come up immediately. At the end, it is pay me now or pay me later. It would be useful if I had a plugin. In that case, I could drain the battery and recharge it at home.

 

2. Also, in very few cases I have seen the battery get charged more than 50% by ICE. Do you guys see this?

generaly speaking the ICE will have to startup when you start the car to warm up anyway. So parking at night with a low HVB will not hurt your MPG

I do not find EV+ useful. As I have grown in my understanding of how the car operates I am able to manage battery SOC more efficiently than the car can on its own. On an Energi it would be more useful.

1 - Yes it's useful. It increases my mpg. With EV+ and working with the hybrid systems I can go over a mile on battery regularly. For me sometimes, but not very often it brings the SOC to the point were the ICE must run in the next start. I can usual get some driving in before the ICE start on the next key on cycle. You are going to get a ICE run cycle at some point. Either straight away or after a small bit of driving.

 

2 - My battery runs the scale of charging indication. I regularly have a full charge. It has a lot to do with your driving techniques. I was the ECO and let the car do it's thing. Traffic has a lot to do with how high my SOC gets.

Totally useless for me. The ONLY time I see EV+ is when I get to about 1/4 mile from home. Otherwise I never see it.

Maybe terrain is also an issue here, as I found it a perfect fit with the hybrid, as I live at the top of a hill that goes about 3/4 mile -- so on the way home it would allow the HVB to get used more than it would otherwise, and then the next morning I'd go in 'sneak-out mode' and would drag the brake pedal enough to regen back downhill for 3/4 mile before the ICE ever came on.

 

I also had some occasions where I'd leave the car in the garage in the evening with very low SOC in the HVB, and come out the next time and find it above halfway SOC - which made we wonder how the gremlins did it and never did figure it out. I mentioned this months ago in a thread here somewhere, would think that some others had seen it happen to their cars too, did not happen very often but every once in a while.

It depends on your EV+ locations, but for me yes it helps. Between the warming of the engine in the morning and the stop signs/lights, I get 1/3-1/2 recharge before hitting the open road anyway.

 

On flat roads, in normal temperatures, I rarely get over 50% SOC if I'm driving under 65. Prolonged changes of any one of those conditions can make SOC reach 100%.

Jeff - see this post & this post. I have documented what you've also seen with the ScanGauge and have figured out a pattern to how it happens.

What?! You haven't figured out what EV+ is for yet? It's so you can sneak in at night and not wake the Missus after a long night at the bar! :)

 

Since I use the remote start in the cold, I always have a full battery, so doesn't matter at what SOC the HVB is when I get home .
