I happened to be going thru an old file cabinet and found my last high school yearbook, circa 1960. (I mis-stated my graduation year somewhere in these forums, geez, it was so long ago)

In it was a picture of our most famous classmate, he gave us a lot of music at school assemblies before his untimely death in an airplane crash.

Richie Valens, aka Richard Valenzuela was quite something to hear in the gymnasium, he had several big song hits and they are stuck in my head, I have some of them on CD's in the car.

I can still see it now, sitting in the wooden pull-out bleachers, clapping hands to La Bamba, Donna, Come On Let's Go and Boney Maronie - 53/54 years ago.

 

So, who did you have in your high school yearbook that was famous??

Cool brother! No one in my class comes to mind. It certainly wasn't me, although my picture was in the yearbook while I was cutting class riding in a convertible by the building.

One I can think of, Ben Wilkerson who played Center for LSU when they won the National Championship and won the Rimington Award (I took his spot on the high school team a couple of years after him and boy did I suck.) He was going to be a first round draft pick, but was injured his senior year (only played a couple of games before the season ending injury and still won the Rimington award that year). Got drafted by the Bengals and traded around. Luckily he's a smart fellow and has a good degree so he can pretty much do what he wants now.

 

As far as historical events, a large amount of the wreckage and remains of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster fell in my county.

Doug DeCinces, who took over at third base for Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles, then played for the Angels. He married my heartthrob (from a distance) of my K-12 years. They are still married and living in Orange County, CA.

No one from my high school is famous, but I did build a house for Scottie Pippen, place had 8' tall doors so he wouldn't hit his head. It was only about 2 miles from Jordans home, or I should say compound, we could see it when we were putting on the roof.

Funny you mention this, I ran across a really strange Youtube related to that. If it wasn't for the NASA emblem on the wreck it would make me go WTF?

Just to add...Orlando Pace came from the same school as did Jackie Mayer who was Miss America in 1963.
