Why no repeat topics allowed?

So over in the Tires section the thread http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/7888-is-40-psi-too-much/ was closed as it had previously discussed.

 

Why is this?

 

Yes the topic may have been discussed previously but should that stop new discussion and debate?

 

Sure there is a search function, which obviously some people know how to use, but things change and fresh ideas should be encouraged. I feel the moderators do a great job but please allow discussions to be created and flow to a natural conclusion, but do certainly step in when people stop being civilized to each other.

I don't think the no repeat rule is in concrete, there are exceptions. The thread you are probably referring to is the one today about tire pressure. The issue didn't have to be searched to find an answer. The subject was covered just three threads down from the new question. This is what HB & Acdii are trying to prevent. I think their main goal is to make this the best possible information source for potential buyers and owners, and they have done that. Keeping the information consolidated results in less time having to be spent reaching an answer. This Forum has grown to such proportion that it is difficult for most people to stay up to date on all the subjects due to the time restraints (except Acdii) we all have. I think our Moderators deserve a pat on the back. They are not restricting discussion and debate, they are just keeping it nicely cataloged for us.

Of course this Forum will always be part social club, but that is of secondary importance.

Thanks B25Nut. Acdii and I as moderators were asked to try to keep the repeating of topics to a minimum. When we have duplicate topics about the same question it makes it harder for someone new to find an answer. If you didn't know about this Forum and went to Google to search for some information about your Fusion Hybrid it would be better if you got one result that included all the discussion about this issue rather than 3 different topics each with a half answer.

 

For example, suppose you are dealing with the smelly AC issue that many users are "enjoying"... since we only have 1 thread about that topic it would be very easy for you to Google that issue and discover that: 1) you aren't the only one with the issue; 2) many others have brought their cars to dealers without successful resolution; 3) Ford is aware of the issue and much, much more. If we had 3 different topics going about the smelly AC though then a new person would have to read 3 different topics to get the same information that they can now get in one topic.

 

New discussion and debate is always welcome. It is just better served continuing the threads that already exist. That's why I posted a link to the 2 threads that already exist about tire pressure. That way anyone who wants to discuss or debate tire pressure can do to one of those two threads to make their comments.

 

You may notice, for example, that the "General Powertrain Discussion" section of this Forum has 900 topics currently. There are many topics in that section that are duplicate questions which can make it harder to find the answer you are looking for. While it's great to have lots of discussion and sharing of knowledge, we don't want to see every section have 900+ topics because that would make it very hard to come in as a new user and find answers to your questions. It also makes it harder for longer-term users to go back and find useful information that they vaguely remember from a past discussion.

Not anymore :) Work has picked up quite a bit for me recently. :( or should it be :), nah :( my paycheck hasnt grown with the additional work.

 

 

Anyhow, its been pretty much answered here, dont feel like we are being mean or anything, its just that we like to keep it orderly.
