keithhk Report post Posted October 17, 2013 Hi, I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid and coming down from the mtns in NC the engine started and rev up many times on its own while coming down the Hills, Has anyone experienced this on there Hybrids in the Mtns when coming down from elevation? Does not seem there should be any reason for the engine to start up when coasting down from altitude. Would appreciate any input if someone has experienced this same condition. Thanks Keith
murphy Report post Posted October 17, 2013 If the HVB has been fully charged it is not possible to use regenerative braking so the engine has to be used to provide the back pressure. The engine does not burn any gas when operating in this mode. 2 B25Nut and hybridbear reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted October 18, 2013 I had mine come on the other day going down a hill with the hill assist on. It did that because I wasn't braking I guess. I normally brake all the way down it, and this one time I didn't, but the car knew, dont ask me how, but it knew it had to stay at 25 MPH. :)
jsolan Report post Posted October 18, 2013 Did you have hill assist turned on, the little button on the shifter? When I descend mountains with hill assist it gets very loud. The first time it did it, my passenger thought the car was going to explode. The downside is when the battery gets fully charged, the downhill assist no longer keeps the car at a constant speed. It slows the car more than without it, but can't hold a constant speed.
lolder Report post Posted October 18, 2013 In the gen 1 FFH braking down a long hill with high SOC the ICE rpm will increase to cause engine braking automatically.

If I'm "lucky" enough I will see real hills (Alps) for the next week since I will be flying to Munich tonight. 1 djminfll reacted to this
