Adam Gilles Report post Posted September 30, 2013 How big is the 2013 FFH Gas tank? I googled it and said 14 gallons, but yesterday I filled up as it said I was 22 Miles to empty and I only put 10.8 gallons? Seems like I would have more than 22 Miles left if I had 4 gallons left. Still can't get over 500 miles, last fill up averaged 40.8 MPG
Charrua Report post Posted September 30, 2013 There is a very long thread dedicated to the subject: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/6201-whats-the-most-gallons-youve-been-able-to-put-in-at-one-fill-up/
Adam Gilles Report post Posted September 30, 2013 i saw that. so if we have a 14 gallon tank why is it on Empty and I only put 10.8 gallons in?
hybridbear Report post Posted September 30, 2013 It's very common for the manufacturer to keep a reserve in the tank when the DTE says 0 miles. Some Toyota hybrids save at least 2 gallons at the 0 DTE point. Seems like the Fords may do something similar.
murphy Report post Posted September 30, 2013 Every car I have ever owned had a reserve in the tank when the gauge was on empty. In the case of the Fusion that reserve is used to cool the fuel pump. It is not a good idea to run it dry. 1 corncobs reacted to this
Adam Gilles Report post Posted October 1, 2013 ok so then how low should you go? If I keep track on the gallons used then can I go to 12 or 13?
murphy Report post Posted October 1, 2013 ok so then how low should you go? If I keep track on the gallons used then can I go to 12 or 13?I don't know what the recommendation is today, now that there is alcohol in the gas, but back when it was pure gas it was best to not go below a half tank to prevent condensation in the tank. They weren't sealed and pressureized back then thouigh. The only time I ever go below a half tank is when on a trip. What if because of some disaster you were forced to evacuate but your tank was down to nothing left and the power was off so the stations couldn't pump any gas.You would have to leave the car behind. 1 GrySql reacted to this

dkegel Report post Posted October 1, 2013 ok so then how low should you go? If I keep track on the gallons used then can I go to 12 or 13?I've never understood why this is an issue/concern for people. Drive until the low fuel light comes on. Drive a little longer. Go get gas. Dave 3 DeeCee, fusionTX and corncobs reacted to this

I better start leaving my tank at least half full. I guess it's better to plan for thosedisasters than leave my beautiful FFH at the gas station:)

Adam Gilles Report post Posted October 4, 2013 I am so nervous about an "Event" I am not going below 3/4 tank and I have a gas can full in my garage. Hopefully my garage is still there though 1 dalesky reacted to this
Sleddog Report post Posted October 5, 2013 (edited) If there's a Zombie invasion, I'm not worried about gas. :hide: Gas will be easy to get. (Think FNH SCAR 16s) ;) Please let me know who else has a gas cache. :) I'll stop by for a visit. Don't worry, I'll do my best to eliminate as many zombies as possible... :slapfight: On my way in and out... :runaway: I'll just say thanks in advance, once I stop for a visit, I won't be staying long. :shift: On a different note... Gas stations in Florida are required, by law, to have an alternate power source in case of an event. Edited October 5, 2013 by Sleddog

GrySql Report post Posted October 5, 2013 Oh, BTW, the gas tank is 'supposed' to hold 13.5 US gallons.Pumping the plastic gas tank up like a balloon and filling the fuel venting pipes, canisters and lines don't count. 2 gkinla and corncobs reacted to this
13FFH Report post Posted October 5, 2013 Yes, tank is 13.5 gals. From my very unscientific calculations comparing DTE, MPG and fuel used on the Trip screen, for a couple of instances I calculated the reserve to be roughly 2.5 gallons. When I had the fuel delivery module replaced, I ran the tank down to a low level to drop it off. When the work was finished, the car showed 5 miles to E. I asked if any fuel was lost and was told no. For fun and giggles, and knowing my calculations show roughly 2.5 gals reserve, I drove straight to our regular gas station close to home and 21 miles away from the dealership. And it still only took 12.36 gals of fuel! DTE does not show negative miles to E....stops at zero. Of course, YMMV. :)
Sleddog Report post Posted October 5, 2013 Filled up yesterday with 27 miles to empty. Could only get 11.5 gallons in the tank.

Something in a 410 semi auto with 15 round mag and a reflex sight would be perfect. Low recoil, fast target acquisition and hard hitting. :) Edited October 5, 2013 by Sleddog 1 acdii reacted to this
