2014 M-B CLA

Recommended Posts

Not the new MB CLA is offering a hybrid version but the article on USAtoday uses the fuel efficient unit of gal/100miles I found that very interesting. This should be used a lot more. IMO it makes FE # better comparable in terms of saving over long term

Here is quote from an article I found.

(Duke) professors Richard Larrick and Jack Soll ran a series of experiments showing that the current standard, miles per gallon or mpg, leads consumers to believe that fuel consumption is reduced at an even rate as efficiency improves. People presented with a series of car choices in which fuel efficiency was defined in miles per gallon were not able to easily identify the choice that would result in the greatest gains in fuel efficiency. For example, most people ranked an improvement from 34 to 50 mpg as saving more gas over 10,000 miles than an improvement from 18 to 28 mpg, even though the latter saves twice as much gas. (Going from 34 to 50 mpg saves 94 gallons; but from 18 to 28 mpg saves 198 gallons).

that is so true. 18 to 21 is about even to 34-47

When I look at it that way Both my upgrades Fusion to Fusion and Flex to Flex are saving gas. :)

I tend to just compare everything with percentages I convert in my noggin. Keeps it somewhat arbitrary.

All I know is there's more cash in my pocket after trading in the truck and I'm even driving more.

I liked the CLA ad with Willem DaFoe back during the Super Bowl when they used Sympathy for the Devil as the ad music. I just hope MB didn't compromise their quality just to break below $30k or dumb down the features too much.

Fun thing is that M-B isn't telling you that there is also a destination charge which puts it over 30k.

I read a review on the car and they compared it to an accord as far as the actual vehicle overall. Other than its a MB.. Your still paying a premium for the name.

I don't like the add-on looking screen. Looks like such and afterthought unlike our Fusions.

It is one sexy looking car for what it is though.

And if I'm not mistaken it's in the compact car segment as well.

I priced one out on the M-B website the other day. If I wanted a CLA equipped similarly to my MKZ, the price rose to $45,000 !!

Okay. I just got back from test driving one of these. I was not impressed. First off, it is smaller than the Fusion/MKZ. The interior has about the same amount of hard plastics as the Fusion, and way more than the MKZ. The nav screen looks like an afterthought sticking out from the upper dash and is not touch. You have to turn a little knob thingy on the console. Oh joy. It did drive nice... although not as quiet as my MKZ. The dealership has another CLA arriving at the end of the month that is less equipped than the one I test drove. Maybe without the Sport Package it will ride better. Hmmm. :shift:

Edit: I forgot to mention the engine start/stop feature... clunk... jerk... shutter. Not cool for a M-B.

So is the MKZ.

Why, beyond me, but at the end of the MKZ commercials, they specifically say Compact class.
