Energi?

With all the incentives on the Energi right now on top of the tax returns next year you would get buying a 2013 energi...... Would it be better just to get one of them!? Positives & Negatives?

There are many pros & cons mentioned already in this thread along with some considerations based on your driving needs, length of commute, trunk capacity needs, is the price of electricity cheap or do you have to pay CA type rates over 20 cents/kWh, etc.

Ford might sweeten the incentives for the last weekend in Sep for the end of the 3rd quarter, like they did in June, especially to clear out all the 2013s. The tax credit went up $256 to $4,007 recently ( every little bit helps ).

Remember, if your no going to be using the plug in mode all the time. The car does have some extra weight to it that will effect city MPG.

I had the same dilemma - I was bound and determined to get a 2014 Hybrid. However, after seeing all of the incentives I could get with the 2013 Energi, I went with it. I got the Titanium version with Nav, Driver assist package, and moonroof. Stickered at $43.8K. After tax, license, and fees, I was out the door at $39.2K. I am getting back 1.5K from CA, and 4K from the feds. Took me down to 33.7K - less than my 2014 Hybrid would have been. Also, the state is installing a fast charger for me. Yes - the trunk is small at 8cf (vs 12cf for you guys, 16 cf for gas). But hey - it will still hold 4 cases of wine! I do miss the hybrid Titanium 18" wheels and the aluminum pedals. But, I have used 6 gallons of gas going 600 miles. As for electricity costs, here in San Diego I was able to switch to the EV TOU-2 plan. Charging from midnight to 5:00 am costs me $0.16/kwh. Currently, at SDG&E's top level of general usage, I am paying over $0.44/kwh - so I am actually saving money! Feel free to ask any questions - they are both great cars. My normal day-time commute is 8 miles each way. Pure electric. On weekend trips, I may have to burn gas, but not much...

I would have loved to get an Energi, but my dealer didn't want to go the EV certification route after they studied it, so I would have to go elsewhere. Since I work closely with the owner I was able to get my HyTi for a good price, where an Energi would have not been affordable, no matter how much the incentives were.

 

Now however, with the 13 year going away, and 14's rolling in, this is the best time to get one.

 

It would have worked out for us, use Hybrid going from our house to town, then switch to EV when we hit town and going to and from work, then back to Hybrid mode once back on the highway above 45. On our daily drive of 80 or so miles round trip, about 20 of them are in city driving.

 

However, without actually doing it, cant say how much it would actually save in gas costs, but the cool factor of not using ANY gas in the city is priceless.

My buddy in Fallbrook got a TESLA and will get $7,500 from the feds plus $2,500 from CA. He also got solar panels installed with a net cost of $8k. His electric bill is minimal and he is selling excess back to the power co. I will be seeing it on Wednesday.
