back up camera

since the dealer installed the newest version of MFT, when I back up, I. get.a red square showing up on the screen and it beeps at me like I'm going to hit something. the red area is a small square that shows up at about the bottom right of the screen, within the lines that show up for back up assist. what do u think is going on?

Just go to your settings, camera settings, and turn the first option off, then on. Cant remember what the option is called. I have no idea if it will help. :)

If the sensor is clean and dry there may be an issue with the sensor. Might still be semi working but down the road it may fail completely. Id just leave it on the list for your next oil change to get it looked at.

Is it happening even when nothing's nearby when you are backing up? I know the update added colored blocks in between the colored lines, but I only see them when we're getting close to something when we're backing up.

My wife was really impressed with the back-up camera last night. We were at a friends house which has a steep, S-shaped, unlit driveway. When leaving, I never turned my head to look behind me. I just kept the ends of the curved white lines centered on the asphalt and got out in one smooth motion. I'm really impressed with the camera's light sensitivity. It had to rely on just the reverse lights last night and the camera gave a clear picture of the surroundings. The rear view camera is, in my opinion, one of the most important safety features the FFH has and is an almost everyday convenience. I think its wide angle lens, combined with Rear Sensors, gives a better warning of oncoming traffic in parking lots than the electronic Cross Traffic Alert does. But since I don't have CTA, this has to be taken as just an opinion.

The MKZ only has the one backup light, but it is one super bright LED! It makes the display look like it's daylight.

I agree 100% I could use one where I park every night.

The CTA has its limits, Speed being the biggest one. If an approaching vehicle is going above 25 MPH, it doesn't register. Well at least not until it has already passed. It also gives many false alerts from stationary objects.

The C-Max Energi has a center line on the screen when backing up in addition to the fixed colored lines and curving guide lines of where you're going. The FFH doesn't have the centerline. The OM indicates that you can turn the center line on & off. On the C-Max I can find this menu item but on the FFH I cannot find it. It doesn't appear in the FFH menus where it appears on the C-Max menus. Am I just blind & ignorant? Or does the FFH not have the center line?

No towing with a C-Max. I guess I just think the center line would be easier to use for lining yourself up straight rather than just outside lines. Especially on snow covered MN parking lots where you cannot see the pavement. The center line would be quicker for the brain to process lining up to the car behind which is not the same width as the FFH rather than trying to line up centered based on outside guidelines. It's interesting that the C-Max has a center line and the FFH doesn't. IIRC the C-Max center line is part of the guidelines and curves with them when backing up.

I would think only vehicles capable of towing would have the hitch guideline. My Flex has a hitch so it needs that line for aligning the ball to trailer, but I see no reason a Cmax would have it, unless its just a carry over from the Escape.

Zoom Zoom, must be some Mazda influence on the Fusion. I wonder why it only shows when zoomed. Friday night was the first time I ever used the backup camera to back up with. My mirrors were useless that night. I prefer the mirrors though, I can back up much faster with them than the camera.

The owners manual says that under camera settings the zoom can be configured on/off but my camera settings only has one option and that is the delay setting. Any ideas on why my camera has gone into zoom mode or how to return it to its normal operation?

I don't think it is in settings, it is just on the screen when you put it in reverse. Just touch the magnifying glass icon.
