Carpet falling apart after 6mo?

I noticed a spot of carpet in front of the drivers seat where the carpet fibers are falling out. It's odd because the car is only 6 months old and has 11k miles. The spot is also in a place that's impossible to touch with your feet while driving. Has anybody else noticed anything similar? I stopped by the dealer but they said I'd have to make an appointment to meet with their warranty soecialist next week.

I plan to. I'm getting frustrated by the little quality issues. I had the piece that covers the door lock on the handle fall off two months ago. Ford said it wasn't warranty, the dealer covered the repair however. After all the recalls and updates it seems like I'm at the dealer every month. Overall I love the car, and am getting great steady mileage around 45mpg. I just wish the attention to details was there.

Many of us feel the same. The build quality on these cars has been pretty terrible. Ford really has dropped the ball on their manufacturing.

Many of the technical hiccups I can live with and expect in a car this complex, but you're right,

the trim, carpet, paint, plastic, headliner, interior, etc. issues - there is no excuse for and are very

frustrating.

 

As an individual, they seem pretty minor, but collectively it seems like a much greater shortcoming.

No chemical spills. I don't even eat in the car.

 

Good news is that it will be replaced under warranty. As it should. It's still a damn inconvience. I really have been to the dealer at least once a month since buying this car. Granted its all for minor issues.

HB, I think you're being a little harsh here. The TCH group could take that quote and discourage a lot of potential FFH buyers. You should have said "a few of these early cars". Mine is an early build and hasn't had one quality issue that needed correcting by my dealer.

Mine too. An early build and no quality issues to date.

Keep in mind, First year of a completely new design. There are Always build issues during the first year. So far on my Job2, there have only been two minor issues, one being a paint issue on the rear bumper( me thinks it didnt get cleaned properly before being painted), and the other is that piece of trim on the drivers door that quite a few others have had pop off.

 

Over all though, the car is well built with good materials, much better than the Toyotas I had.

I'm sorry, you're right. I'm just rather frustrated right now because it seems every week we notice another trim piece that is loose, misaligned, etc. Our car escaped the 12V battery issues and the low MPG issues that some vehicles built just days before or after have, but we sure got a lot of trim quality issues. Inside the car has been great, it's just outside that isn't so good. It becomes easy to generalize and make blanket statements which aren't necessarily accurate, sorry for that.

And mine would be the opposite. Inside, my car has had far too many rattles, flaws, and misfits for my liking. I don't think Toyota would benefit from this though, as everybody I know of that got a Toyota have had to deal with the same thing. However when compared to my VW, I'm finding it hard to accept. I'm just now to the point where I think I only have one rattle left and the dealer has stopped breaking other things.

hopfully you guys have helped work most of the kinks out of the FFH so when I get my job 2 14, it will have no issus at all!! yea! right!!?..right....? :tumbleweed:

I drive with the seat almost all the way back, on trips I fold my left foot back and rest it against the seat.

The other day as I was vacuuming the carpets I noticed a wear spot right where my shoe rests, centered on that carpet just in front of the drivers seat.

What to do? Chafing gear... !!

 

I'd purchased upgraded floor carpet mats and had those cheezy OEM front floor mats stuck in a garage cabinet.

After measuring the area that needed protection I cut a unused OEM mat into the proper shape, fastened it with a special black screw w/washer, tucked the forward end under the drivers floor mat.

All secure and protected from chafing by my shoe now.

Yes, that OEM carpeting in these cars is pretty thin stuff.

I remember the day I was sending my 2010 Sport off to find a new owner. I was cleaning it out and found that someone who sits in the passenger seat had spilled something. Whatever it was ate the carpet. It all came off when I vacuumed it. Ever since then I have been pretty insistent that if something spills. CLEAN IT UP! Also was a good reason to get the weathertechs and huskies.

I will say toyota has more of those noises than ive heard of with fusion and mkz.

 

VW is great for build quality on those things. But it just looks old and dated. Even my friend audi S7 looks old inside.

I have a spot wearing in a very similar fashion and location to the OP. I have my seat quite a ways back, but still don't think it's a spot that I touch much if at all. My only guess is that it is in a location impacted by components below it but I haven't noticed it being excessively hot or wet.

 

I have just shy of 12k miles on it, so I hurried to get it checked out by my dealer. Ford is sending new carpets for replacement.
