Don't run the car while in neutral with the AC on

I was wondering this the other day and you can fully deplete the battery if you park your car with the parking brake, have the shifter in neutral and turn on the AC. When the car is in neutral - the engine can't start and the battery can't be recharged by regenerative braking. If you're driving it will just go directly to friction brakes.

 

Although I don't want a dead car - I'm wondering what would happen if I just left it as such...

Depress the gas peddle all the way down - the ICE will start.

The HVB will disconnect before it gets too low to damage it. The LVB will completely discharge. In the 2010 FFH, the ICE will not start in "N" when you depress the pedal. The ICE will "start" ( be motorized ) in "N" coasting if you exceed the maximum EV speed. Avoid the use of "N", it's only useful in moving car washes and it confuses the attendants there. You have to tell them not to turn the car off or that you have to put it in "P" to start it. Since many don't speak English, you never know what will happen and you need to be at the exit of the wash in case.

Correct. It will start in "P" but not in "N".

Mine did NOT start the ICE even when it was dangerously low when I full depressed the pedal with the car in Neutral and the parking brake on.

I had the power in my neighborhood go off for 9 hours this last weekend, among the problems of dealing with losing A/C in 100 degree heat, I also was missing my football team playing on PPV, so my wife, son and I all sat in the Fusion for close to 4 hours in park with the A/C on listening to the game on Sirius, and I'm happy to report it did not drain the battery dead. everytime the battery got low, the ICE would come on, charge it back up about 75% then the battery would take over for a while.

Yes in park the ICE will turn on. In NEUTRAL it will not.

Glad we got that cleared up.
