Former Expedition owner Report post Posted August 13, 2013 While travelling recently and using the Navigation with MFT on my HyTi, the location of my vehicle moved a few hundred feet from the actual road I was driving on. Here's a photo of the Navigation on MFT showing what I am describing: In the example above, I had been travelling along on the designated route when my vehicle inexplicably "jumped" over to the left on the MFT screen. I can confirm that I was still driving along the designated route. My HyTi didn't just jump into someone's backyard. While driving and attempting to find a location with the navigation, this was a huge distraction. Has this happened to anyone else? Any explanation why this happens? It is the second time it has happened to me. The first time was driving in unfamiliar territory into NYC, trying to find the hotel for a wedding. srogers Report post Posted August 14, 2013 I've also had that happen and I don't know the reason why it happens.

murphy Report post Posted August 14, 2013 The cars location is based on calculations from multiple GPS satellites. If the GPS receivers lose the signal from several satellites the accuracy goes way down. The car doesn't know about the road. It is plotting your position and the known position of the road. Anything between the car and the satellites can block the signal such as trees, buildings, mountains, storm clouds.

TX NRG Report post Posted August 15, 2013 While travelling recently and using the Navigation with MFT on my HyTi, the location of my vehicle moved a few hundred feet from the actual road I was driving on. Any explanation why this happens? These vehicles are equipped with significant computing capacity and highly complex software algorithms approaching artificial intelligence capabilities. My guess, and this is only a guess, is that rather than continuing to endure the dreaded Partridge Family song, it instead wished to veer off the road and aim for the nearest house, ending it all. 8 mokee, corncobs, B25Nut and 5 others reacted to this
Former Expedition owner Report post Posted August 15, 2013 Very funny, but I was not listening to Partridge Family songs. I was listening to Howard Stern, who was re-playing interviews of members of the Partridge Family. 1 acdii reacted to this

Strns Ego was too much for the puny little Nav to handle and it just wanted to pull over and cry for a while.
Daniel Ward Report post Posted March 12, 2014 Hahaha! I had this same thing happen today... Nav had me driving directly through the Washington monument, up the reflecting pool, and right onto Abe Lincoln's lap. I did none of those things. On the way home at the end of the day, everything was fine.
aschulz261 Report post Posted March 12, 2014 I had it happen to me once, but, I was in Kentucky, so I figured that was enough of an explanation. 3 SteveB_TX, acdii and corncobs reacted to this
tr7driver Report post Posted March 12, 2014 This happens to my iphone with Google maps all of the time. When I'm in my kitchen it shows me in my neighbor's garage, some 40 yards away. There is some % error in the civilian GPS data.
larrylwill Report post Posted April 3, 2014 10 years ago gps was accurate to 30 meters, today its 3 meters, also 15 years ago we were using the militarys gps sats and they turned them almost off 300 meters or more when they wer bombing or something, today we use cilivinan gps and some are reconed with a radio signal of 3ft accuracy. if your inside the house its propbly using only the radio signal which is way off without the sats. Also it takes 3 sats to get the best data but will work with 2. Dates are approx.
Natalie Mook Report post Posted September 12, 2023 My 2014 Ford Edge navigation system has been doing this for the past year. I tried getting a new SD card with the latest version of US/ Canada mapping, which didn't help. So I figure it is some electronic issue. If anyone knows what it is, I would appreciate your input.
