I love the car.. but my MPG is terrible. What is your lifetime average?

I hate to hear that

What did the dealer tell you? Has he/she taken the car out with you and observed how and why the mpg remain low? How many miles do you have on the car as of now? I keep hearing about improvements after 6K miles.

the dealer and service techs don't seem to care and aren't interested in helping.much. my lifetime average is 32 and I have 4100 miles on it.

Reset one of your trip meters and monitor it to see what your current mpg is.

After 4100 miles in the lifetime summary you could double your mpg and it would still take forever to make that number increase.

Also reset your instant MPG. Monitor it on one of your normal trips and see what you get.

I think you should really get together with another Forum member who lives near you. Have you tried doing that? I don't know who lives near you but another owner who's getting 45+ MPG could drive your car and should instantly be able to tell if your car has something wrong with it.

Latest post says there is an upcoming event in Dallas on Sep 7th, sounds like a worthy road trip to me, see below thread.

Lifetime for me is 41 MPG (which includes the really *really* bad burn in period where is was 25 MPG last winter). Thanks to the update and no climate control use (its cooling off here in Toronto) 50 MPG around town is typical.

I am in Houston we constantly get mid 90 to 100 deg. The car now have 1,400 miles on it, I get 42.4mpg on a 400 miles round trip going 64mph, and street travel hoping 30-55mph and get 39.6mpg a/c and entertainment always on. Use Eco Cruise when ever I can. Hope this help

Have you tried calling the Service Manager? Call him/her and ask to have a service tech travel with you on a 10 or 15 minute drive where he/she can observe your minute-by-minute engine activity. Reset your mpg when you both get in the car and see where you end up at the end of the drive. Ask the tech what you can do differently to improve your mpg, and print some of the results we (the forum members) have posted, or our fuelly numbers, indicating anywhere from 40's to 50's. Maybe they will determine that there is a chip or a sensor that is defective (I'm not a mechanic, I don't know if chips or sensors have an effect on mpg, I'm just using that as an example!)

I feel your pain Clummus. The update to mind did no good also. Close to 6000 miles now and still averaging 34.5 lifetime. I sent a nasty e-mail to a couple of people at my dealership with no response. Sucks because I bought my car through the Dealer program at my company. They buy hundreds of Ford vehicles. I don't want to make them mad as it might come back to my corporate but at the same time I feel I got ripped off. :banghead:

Which dealer did you buy from?

Does anyone find just turning the fan and not the ac on difficult? if I hit fan button the ac and climate turns on by default. and when you turn ac and climaye off and click on blower to set speed, the climate energy consumption in myview stays at 2 KW which tells me that there is a software glitch that is eating up my mpgs. what a crap logic. how do they stay in business this way. Please help its driving me nuts.

Turn maximum A/C on.

Turn A/C off. (maximum A/C will also go off)

Turn recirculation off.

Set the fan speed that you want.

The energy consumption should be zero.

Thanks murphy will give it a try. one would think in a hybrid they would make just turning the fan on easier than that. especially when ac consumes 10 mpg.

Kudos to you for figuring it out and sharing.

I can't take credit for it. Someone else figured it out and reported it in another thread. I tried it and it works.

You can also turn AC off if you select the dash vent and turn AC off. I found that works much easier than max AC because then you have to reset the temp setting from LO.

That's exactly how I do it. :)

What is your tire pressure? I just raised mine to 43.5 psi front and 42.5 back. Only had my FFH for 11 days but 45.1 mpg overall and steadily climbing.

Tire pressure can make a huge difference--3 to 4 mpg. I drove a Honda Civic Hybrid for 5 years with no adverse effects from 44 psi (over 60,000 miles). When we first got Honda tire pressure was only 32 psi. Steadily increased it to the 44 psi (max for the tires) with great results. MPG was never above 42 but got as much as 48 mpg after increasing the pressure to 44 psi.

But increased tire pressure will NOT help if you don't drive the vehicle correctly--gentle acceleration and smooth regenerative stops.

Good luck.
