MFT UPDATE?

I haven't been able to keep up with everything on the forum lately due to my work schedule. I just dropped my car off for the software update to improve mileage.(hopefully). I think I noticed someone getting a MFT update too?..my car was built in April, is there already an update?. the technicians said it doesn't show up under my VIN.

This is an across the board update. My invoice actually calls it a recall????. Anyhoo, the update is for ever 2013 FFH.

If you have an account on syncmyride.com, on the right it will show your current version, should say 3.5.1 - this update will bring it to 3.6.2.

I did the Sync update today and it now says Gen 2 - V3.6.2 in SyncMyRide.com

Under syncmyride.com it will show the MFT update.

 

Misread your post sorry; it might be that it shows up in the Ford service system.

Just in case anyone wants to verify that you are running SYNC Gen2 Version 3.6.2 after your update. If you have MFT go to HOME then SETTINGS then HELP then SYSTEM INFO and you will see CCPU S/W VERSION: this should read 4.30.13171_PRODUCT. As long as the last five digits in this read 13171 you are running SYNC Gen2 Version 3.6.2 according to Ford Motor Company if these last five digits read anything else you are not running under SYNC Gen2 Version 3.6.2

Here is an UPDATE.

I called Ford Corp. 08-29-13 (why, Because MY dealership said do it yourself ) to ask them Why I couldn't just download to the SD card directly, they said because the Nav. system is only on the sd card with your system, BUT you can download it off the internet ( Ford site) to a USB stick storage source and plug that into your Car's usb port OR we will Snail Mail you one on a USB Stick and the upload from that will work but remember to keep the car running the whole time till it says on the screen, installation is complete.

 

What’s included in this update? DA5T-14D544-BD Gen2 - V3.6.2

The latest SYNC® update includes all of the improvements from previous updates, plus additional benefits, such as:

• Information display on the homescreen for HD, Sirius (if equipped), and FM radio sources
• Simplified graphics and improved usability
• Enhanced voice destination entry for SD Card Navigation (if equipped)
• Improved Navigation vehicle positioning (if equipped)
• Rear view camera guidelines set to ON by default (if equipped)
• Updated SYNC/device compatibility information

The installation of this update will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Be sure to keep your engine running, not in accessory mode, throughout the entire installation process. Turning off your vehicle during the update installation will disrupt the process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you begin the installation process, you may drive your vehicle while the update is downloading to your SYNC system. If your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Access with Push Button Start feature, you will need to temporarily disable the Automatic Engine Idle Shutdown (AEIS) component before beginning the installation in order to prevent your vehicle from timing out and shutting off the engine before the software update is complete. To disable this feature, use your steering wheel controls to navigate to the Settings menu on your left-hand Instrument Cluster LCD display. From there, select Vehicle >Auto Engine Off >Off. (If you do not see this setting, there is no need to make any changes before starting the update.) Alternatively, after initiating the installation, you may drive the vehicle during the update process to avoid the engine shutting off. The AEIS will automatically reset to "On" the next time you start your vehicle.

Please note: During the update installation, SYNC will temporarily appear to not recognize your mobile phone or media device. This is normal.

When your system has been successfully updated, SYNC will display a notification saying, "Installation complete."

The SD card is read only from what I can see. Besides, why would you even want to mess with it, you could corrupt the information on it and hose the Nav, and that will not be covered under warranty. The Download to USB stick is easy and straight forward. Did it for my Flex, and the trip home was plenty of time for the upgrade, after about 20 minutes the system was back up, and only a few other updates ran but the radio was working after that time so I wasn't completely silent during the drive.

 

The only hard part was updating the Sync site. I had do download it again before I could confirm the install, but since I had already downloaded and the file was on my computer already, it went quickly.

@ acdii..... at first I didn't know that Just only the Nav. was on the SD card, I thought possibably the updates might be stored on it and just get overwritten when a new one comes along.

Secondly, the Corp. Letter I recieved from Ford Corp. said to Take my Car into the Dealership to get this done. I called the dealership to make an appointment and they told me to " Do it myself ".

That kinda PO'ed me because the Letter said to take it in, Not do it myself.

Why are they telling me to bring it into the dealership if they wantesd me to do it myself ?

So I called Ford Corp. and told them MY dealership said to do it myself. They told me we'll send you a USB stick just plug it in to the Car's USB port and it will update.

They apologized for MY dealerships lack of Service to their customers.

It was my way of sticking it to the dealership, now they have another Neg. against them from me on file at Ford Corp. I don't expect any kind of Service from this dealership. THEY SUCK at customer Service.

My FFH is one of those that CANNOT be done at home (as told to me by a Ford Sync CS Rep), unless I get a authentic Ford USB stick - which takes forever.

I just talked to my Service Dept and they tell me that they do this update all the time, easy for them and are happy to do it.

I'm sure you asked "WHY can't mine be done at home when all the others can, and syncmyride.com explicitly directs it to be done at home?" If so, what was their explanation?

Ron, here is my Letter from Ford. Why are they telling me to take it to my Dealership for installation ? At the bottom , it says Future updates will be available to download to USB.

To me that says they are not ready with this update 3.6Ver. to download to a USB..

FWIW, I updated our 2014 using a regular old flash drive. Seemed to work fine.

Dave did you get a Letter directly from Ford ? Mine is a 2013 FFH. Maybe it only works that way on TI models. I did notice You and Milleron both have TI models, where as GrySql and I don't. How did you know about the update in the first place? I didn't know about the update availability until I got the Letter from Ford.

 

I was just doing what my letter told me to do, schedule an appointment with Local Dealer for Update.

For me setting up a syncmyride account was part of the delivery process but I already did set it up before I went for the pick up and my sales guy just laughed about it.

 

I did the MFG update myself and had no problem with it. About two weeks later I got the same letter. For reference I have a regular SE but for some strange reason there are cars out there that can't be updated my the owner.

 

It doesn't hurt to sign up and download the update if you can. The website will tell you based on your VIN if you can do it yourself.

As you can see on my Letter it clearly states my Vin and bring into dealership for update. Mine might be one of the Strange ones, just like the Dealership. LOL.

I have one of those cars that would not update from the Website, so my Dealer did it.

Not only did it wipe everything clean on my Nav, Sirius, Radio and any other thing that it was connected to, it also wiped out my account on the Syncmyride.com website.

My account disappeared, totally.

I re-registered with the exact same email and password and then had to send a VHR to the website so it could have my car's particulars.

Except it would not send a VHR because it said 'nothing changed, report canceled' and hung up. That made me scratch my head for awhile, so I left the door open so the 'Door Open Alert' was on the dashboard, and the VHR went through with no problem. Crazy. Now my website and car are up to date - I thought.

 

Next, I had to set my Sirius stations, I have the cheapo 'Mostly Music' subscription account, but when I was entering the Sirius channels I noticed I had everything Sirius has to offer, not a limited Sirius account - what? I logged on to my Sirius account and it shows that I have everything - but pay for the cheap 'Mostly Music' price, I don't know what happened, more crazy.

 

Next I will spend hours entering all my Nav addresses again, what a pain.

I feel sorry for you having to go through all that all over again, GrySql. I'm hoping the Offical Ford USB Stick MFT Update will do it's thing without messing up the whole Car's Nav system and Radio etc.

I'm supposed to get the Mostly Music deal too but haven't recieved my paperwork from them yet. I'm paying them with a Money Order. I don't TRUST Sirius as far as I can throw my car. I've heard way too many bad things about paying them with Credit Cards, including my Son's own Bad experience.

Good Luck on putting in all your Nav. addresses again. I'm surprised it doesn't back them up to a cloud account somewhere.

I asked the Ford Sync folks to send me a Ford MFT update USB stick, it's been over a month and it's 'in the mail' so I just had the Dealer do it.

Why my SD card was wiped along with everything else makes no sense to me. I'll forego any sarcastic comments and remain pleasant and optimistic. :censored:

No letter. We just bought the car. I went to syncmyride.com and it showed I needed the update., so I gave it a shot.

Per the letter, I took mine to the dealer this AM and was told my VIN doesn't need the update according to his system. So I guess I'll try to do it myself.
