South Korea debuts EV buses that are recharged by roadway

In Gumi in South Korea you can now ride an EV bus that is recharged by special electromagnetic coils embedded in the roadway:

Now imagine that you would transfer this technology for regular cars. For example if they would put these charge station around intersections to recharge cars while waiting at a red light.

They have taxis that are fully electric, getting maybe 80 miles per charge. Throughout Tokyo, they have set up battery exchange stations where the taxi drives in and the depleted battery is removed and replaced with a fully charged one. Then the depleted battery is charged and will be used on an exchange later. If it works in Tokyo, they could start to expand that if the demand for it outside of Tokyo taxis starts to pick up.

The original article I read did say that it takes less time than pumping a tankful of gas.

That's cool! I wonder how they'll do in rain/snow?

If I remember, these stations are a "drive-thru"; the driver pulls in, the batteries are removed from the bottom, then new batteries are installed and the car is driven out of the station. It might even be automated, Im not sure. So I don't think the weather effects the process.

If this comes here in the next 5-10years even if they just do certain parts of the highway maybe 1 mile stretches every 10miles if its not that expensive of a option on a car id consider it. That extra 1-2miles cxould mean alot to MPG.
