Car "bottoming" out?

That may not work very well when the snow plows come in the winter or street cleaners in the spring. My driveway approach looks nearly identical to yours and I avoid the scraping noise by taking the curb at an angle and going very slow. I also think the scraping noise is not the front air dam of the car but rather the plastic pieces (don’t know the proper name) that hang down right in front of the front tires.

The street sweepers are like clockwork thankfully so we know when to pull em up...the curb is unavoidable even at angle...not my first rodeo on driving a lower car :P - the snow time, not worried...either...there'll be snow and i'll street park it if i have to anyways... I've hit both bottom fender piece and the Air Dam flaps that look like forward facing mud guards (they're air dams that drive air up into the engine compartment was my understanding) . backing up is easy with the reverse cam :) but i digress - i wish i didn't have to do it but allas my living conditions at the current time :( - My roomate's 2006 Milan doesn't bottom out, but he has larger tires on...and not quite as low setting either..

nv rick - I too have to watch the backing out as well...but its quite easy now with the mats - I tried the driveway 4 times separate ways, and got out and checked what was rubbing...before going this route ...it sucks but i'm not gonna worry too much, it works for now and i can live with it.

They are called tire spoilers, they direct air away from the spinning tire.

Huh? Of course it's for aerodynamics. It would be far more efficient to open the grill for cooling then to try to deflect air up from underneath. Ford uses the same design on cars that don't have active grill shutters.

The same air dam is on all Fiesta models. Prior to 2014 model year, it was readily visible under the front end but design changes have hidden it better. Grill shutters/blockers or not ... it allegedly serves to drive air up across the radiator in addition to the direct shot coming through the grille.

An old topic...and wasn't sure if there was a newer one here...but here's something I did to prevent the dreaded curb bottoming out (at least for my own driveway - as the rest will have to be wise turning choices :) )

 

 

$80 for that just to prevent your tire spoilers from scraping on the street i would spend that kind of money on better things

 

plus my luck i would forget its there and the street sweeper destroys it or better yet someone trips and falls over this and now you got a lawsuit to worry about all to save your tire spoilers

it's NOT just the Flaps rubbing the entire front end hits as does the back end without this...lol I am not as worried as you all are about the street sweepers and people that can't walk right as I am my front end bottoming out...:)
