Recommended Posts

does anyone know how I can get involved in a class action lawsuit against ford? my lifetime average is 32. lately, my trip mileage is actually lower..around 31. I can't accept this after spending 36500 on this car.

Have you ever driven your car in a highway that is more or less flat for about an hour without exceeding 62 MPH in ECO cruise? That should give you the best MPG . In that case I get around 45-50 MPG.

Driving the car in stop and go roads, or where you are usually going slow doesn't help. The battery never charges enough and accelerating kills the MPG.

When I drive under those conditions I get around 30, too.

Somebody needs to schedule a get together in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and then clummus could drive in and we could have a competition with all the different drivers by setting up a predefined route that each member drives with clummus riding shotgun. See if anyone can get a decent MPG run out of the car.

I suspect I would not do well as I get around 38 with mine.

Same here - lowest I ever got for a daily commute was 31, which was the first day I drove it to work with cruise set on 70 and not caring about MPG (in the first few hundred miles is definitely not the time to focus on MPG)

Thanks for replying. If that's the case I think you should really check with your dealership. That's not normal at all. Maybe something is wrong with the battery and it doesn't get charged like it should.

I'm sorry about this. I understand how frustrating it could be.

If you ever end up near Houston, maybe you can compare notes with a couple of us Houston owners; there are quite a few of us it seems.

If you say the car is only getting 30 MPG, have you taken it in yet? Have them drive the car and see if they can get 40+ in it, and if so, insist they show you by going on a road trip with you watching how they drive it. Thats what I did, and was shocked at how they tested the car. My car does much better if I have the AC off and the windows open. The AC sucks a lot of juice, and I can see up to 12 MPG difference AC on or off.

I had the dealer drive my car, the best he got was 36. They gave me Fords hotline number. I called to give a formal complaint as I am getting anywhere from 35 to 39 miles to the gallon. Not even close to the 47 they say. I had a nissan altima before this car which stated 32 mpg I always got anywhere from 29 to 32. So.. the lady I spoke with on the phone told me to hold for a few minutes. She returned to the phone and gave me some fuel efficiency tips.

1. Dont turn on a powered things ( radio, air, )

2. Make sure tires are properly inflated

3. Keep the windows up as them being down creates resistance

4. clean your air filters

Is she serious. I paid 32,000 for a new car that she wants me to drive around in 100 degree weather with the windows up and no air on. its 5 months old and she thinks my air filters are dirty. I told her she should also advise people to only drive downhill with with 80 mile an hour winds pushing them. oh and then she told me not to expect a response they only use this info for researching purposes. Dont get me wrong I love the car, hate that they flat out lied about MPG

I'm sorry that you're not reaching the MPG results you should get. However I don't feel that they lied about MPGs. It seems to me that they should follow up better with these "problem" vehicles, but the numbers they advertised are reachable by a properly working FFH. Now, I hate that they won't take more interest in the vehicles that fail to reach results, but that's different than lying about what the MPG SHOULD be. At least in my opinion. Best of luck with yours though, maybe they'll figure something out from all of this "researching purpose" surveying they're doing.

I agree, once the universal MPG fix is in place, they should own up and start taking a look at these problem cars. Something tells me they will. I also anticipate that we'll see more software updates in the future to tweak things more.

I agree that some of the other owners near clummus should get together and drive her car. If her car is really defective I'd think it would be instantly apparent to someone who has a non-defective car. If they drive her car and get good gas mileage then that proves that the problem is the driver. If they can't get good gas mileage then that shows that the problem is the car.

In addition to a highway run like this, is there a long stretch of road where you can go approximately 45mph with Cruise Control on? There is one route I take where I do approximately 5 miles on the highway, I keep my speed under 65mph. Then I exit the expressway and do an additional 8 miles on surface streets where the stoplights are "progressive". I usually don't hit more than 1 red light the entire way and I keep the car on Cruise Control at 45mph. I consistently break 50mpg for that trip when I take this route.

I drive 28 miles each way to work. Some is stoplight to stoplight with a speed limit of 45. The other part is 55 to 60. Friday morning going in without the a/c I got 54+. Going home with the a/c on and accelerating at a good clip (it's friday and I wanted to get home)I still got 48+.

It sounds like there is an issue. Maybe she can get the dealer to compare her car against another to verify it. If they are seeing 2 car driven the same with different results, it's hard to just pass it off as normal.

To answer your question, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong. Once the lawsuit becomes big enough to be considered Class Action, it goes through some litigation, then at some point there will be a notice sent out to those who may qualify to join the suit. (Think hip implant or asbestos class action suits you see on TV). Then you sign up and wait for the outcome.

So while waiting, it's time to get answers from the dealer/Ford, and if it comes down to it, don't be nice about it. I had to negotiate with my boss, who I really like and is a brilliant person, about a promotion/raise this week and I was not happy. It turned ugly, but I got the answers/results I was after and everything was made clear. The issues with the underperforming FFHs is not clear yet.
