Terps Report post Posted July 29, 2013 If you've just hit the 6K mark then you'll probably start to see a steady improvement in fuel economy. Supposedly there is a 6K breakin period and I did observe a marked improvement in fuel economy once I got past the 6K mi.I recently hit 2000(4000 rough total) miles on the ICE and noticed a significant improvement, best drive to work was 59/Avg about 52, shortly after 2000 miles on the ICE I hit 67 on the work commute and Avg has been up around 56 or so. So I question if there is some sort of programmed break in based on ICE only miles. I definitely have noticed improved mpg on 80mph interstate trips as well lately, maybe it's just the thin air here in Colorado, who knows?

I live in a mountainous area so probably not the best environment for high mpg's. I started out in the 38mpg range when i bought it in April and it has gotten better with each tank. I would love to get into the mid 40's but it is what it is. My wife's old expedition got 11mpg so 40+ is great in my book. You mileage is awesome, btw. MTGilby Report post Posted August 3, 2013 My average mpg is 46.2 and the lifetime is 45.8. I This is why we bought our FFH, as we mostly drive in town. My service people are amazed at our mileage, and I am wondering if they really understand hybrids. 1 corncobs reacted to this

I love this car!Looks like you are off to a good start. Just remember, the mechanical break-in period for the engine is 2,000 mi with a full break-in taking 6,000 miles. You could see your fuel economy improve substantially over time. 1 jeapa reacted to this

I am still a little worried about getting the PCM update since my car is doing so well without it. I am delaying until I read more updates here. MaineFusion Report post Posted August 11, 2013 Here is my Trip 2 at 2,654mi (50.6mpg) and my overall lifetime (never reset so true lifetime for car from factory). Trip 2 only shows 193mi for EV mode, when it is actually 1,193mi because the tripometers can't show EV miles past 999.9mi. The regen miles are messed up because the PCM software update reset this.I'm hopeful that I can bump up my lifetime MPG average by 0.2mpg by the end of this week based on how quickly it has been increasing for the past couple of days. 1 corncobs reacted to this

Whats was your average speed, and driving conditions?
MaineFusion Report post Posted August 11, 2013 When driving on country roads below 45mph, I can get 63mpg or higher. For the trip profile graphed in the Ski Track below, I get around 49mpg when I set the top speed plateau to 65mph and around 51mpg when set to 63mpg. The slower head and tail speeds along with the 55mph zone bring my average trip speed to around 50mph and help to bring up my over all MPG for those commutes. On longer trips with higher average trip speeds, I'd expect lower MPG. I normally keep my tire pressure at 35psi. The Maine Turnpike, which I drive for my commute and which is profiled below, is in pretty good condition overall. Oftentimes, when not commuting to work, I will stick to secondary roads with speed limits of 45mph and less to go to the mall, shopping etc., which helps pad my overall MPG. In Maine, all our roads are slightly rolling which works well with the FFH regen and EV cycle. Lately I've been able to stay in EV mode around 40% of the time overall. Another trick I do is to avoid accelerating so hard off a stop that the car kicks in the ICE until I'm over 15mph. Remember an internal combustion engine has zero torque at zero MPH, where as an electric motor has 100% torque. Allowing the electric motor to accelerate the car off the stop gives the car time to get to a speed where the ICE will have decent torque and thus run more efficiently. Your car is excellent and the info that you provide is great as well. So... I have looked all thru the options on MyFordTouch and cannot figure out where the settings are that provide the same info that you provide above.... I did see somewhere in Sirius that it would give me Ski conditions.... (is is there?)... it's 90 degrees outside so I'm not sure where to find it... Help me! ;) OK, so now I'm going to try some of your driving techniques to improve my 36MPG... I have noticed that the EV doesn't really do much until after I get up to 30MPH or so, so I've been using the ICE to get me to that point and then let off and see if I have enough juice for the EV to kick in and take me a little farther.... BUT.. what you just said about torque makes sense... So.... I'm gonna EV it up to 15MPH then kick the ICE in up to 30MPH then let the car decide from there... At that point I will have reached my 3 mile destination. Now for some positive,,, and more information on my car and hopefully others. As you can see I'm at 36MPG.... So today I drove round trip 52.2 miles.... outside temp= 82- 86 deg. ,,, rolled the windows down, raised the sunroof... and travelled in ECO at 55MPH..... Upon arriving home I got 49.8 MPG!!! Yeah!!!! WHOOO....... HOOOOOO!!!! And this ticked my lifetime up 0.2 ticks. I'm going to get my tools out and remove my compressor tonite. Also, I've read that every 100 pounds of luggage or people reduces MPG by 1MPG each. So I joined weighwatchers...... I'm 200 pounds so I should be able to gain another 1MPG by the end of the year....

If I joined weightwatchers,,, and the wife pushes the car up hills,,, then we will both lose weight and gain another 2MPG by the end of the year! On a serious note: Where do I get this Ski Track thing that can help me graph my driving history.... Thanks, Seriously, Everybody here is a source of great information. apriltbo1995 Report post Posted October 18, 2013 I am currently only at 34.5 for lifetime. I am just under 10K miles on my car. I have a 60mi round trip commute each day on the interstate that is constantly up and down. My daily MPG can range from 35mpg to 38mpg. I usually get my best mpg on the weekends when I stick close to home. Overall I am still happy with my mpg, it's better than what I was getting in my '05 Pontiac G6 GT, my fuel costs have still cut in half. But I still can't help but be jealous by all the amazing mpg's that I am seeing here but I am also very realistic that we all have different driving habits and different commutes.
