clummus Report post Posted July 22, 2013 when I have to accelerate quickly, it sounds like a jet plane taking off. Lol.maybe not that bad, but should the ICE be that loud when taking over quickly?
jeff_h Report post Posted July 22, 2013 Same as mine does... sounds like both my old FFH and wife's old Escape Hybrid -- I guess the Atkinson Cycle engine is designed for efficiency rather than sounding cool since it's a bit of a sickly-sounding thing, IMHO. But normal.
hermans Report post Posted July 22, 2013 The MKZ sounds the same.
kuzzi Report post Posted July 22, 2013 Good analogy. A turbine engine at takeoff would spin to a constant rpm and stay there as the aircraft accelerates. Our engines do the same! 2 corncobs and hybridbear reacted to this

GrySql Report post Posted July 23, 2013 The sound of the ICE starting up is like an alarm clock telling me to wake up and 'glide, man, glide!'Whatever mpg's I'm getting only get worse when the Atkinson starts yowling.Maybe Ford puts that nasty sounding muffler on there for a reason, it's a peddle lifter for me. 2 vangonebuy and corncobs reacted to this
hybridbear Report post Posted July 23, 2013 If the ICE is loud enough that it's bothering you then it may be a sign that you should lighten up on the pedal. Doing so would no doubt help you get better gas mileage. 1 corncobs reacted to this
neod192 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 How high is your power demand when this happens (maybe I should go back to your videos and see)? Try and keep it under the 2nd line - that'll help with the mileage as well :) 2 hybridbear and corncobs reacted to this
clummus Report post Posted July 23, 2013 I was talking about.the occasional time when I have.to speed up to pass.a car or merge. I've.given up on getting good.mp. best I can do is around 33 driving like a dead grandma(someone else used.that and.it fits perfectly). I'll get.the update.done when it's.available, but I won't drive like I'm dead and.only.get 33. I'll drive.normally and get 30 I suppose. 1 neod192 reacted to this
vangonebuy Report post Posted July 24, 2013 I wonder if I have an exhaust leak.Under normal acceleration. The ICE sounds like a dull flat monotone putt putt. Kinda like a kid making a raspberry sound. I never noticed any Jet sound at higher power.Except the electric only sound.... Which makes me very happy. I haven't noticed any real difference with its noise cancelling software. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
neod192 Report post Posted July 24, 2013 I haven't noticed any real difference with its noise cancelling software. That's because it's working :) Try pulling the fuse for the noise cancellation system (can't remember which one) and you'll be able to hear what you're not hearing now. I read that it's pretty bad w/out it/ 1 vangonebuy reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted July 26, 2013 I love the whine and growl it makes under light load. I also noticed it pulses on its own when holding steady throttle.
rfruth Report post Posted July 27, 2013 Try & keep your foot out of if and your be rewarded with less noise and more MPG (hard to do when passing)
JavaOops Report post Posted July 12, 2017 Granted we all bought a FFH for the promised gas mileage. But where I live there are enough hills that the cruise asks for enough power to cause the ICE to engage. The ICE has an obnoxious 'buzz' when its under load.I noticed in another forum someone had dynomatted his left fender, left inner fender, left firewall and some additional sound deadening inside.Me, I think it's the intake tube(s) and looking at dynomatting around them. Griswald Report post Posted July 12, 2017 If you are only getting 30 or 33 MPG, you are doing it wrong... And you bought the wrong car. 1 ptjones reacted to this
lkatze2 Report post Posted July 12, 2017 I work around jet engines, and it sounds more like a cow mooing to me than a jet engine. and sure don't have the power of a jet engine.
