djminfll Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Sometimes some drivers just need to be yanked from their cars and have their heads opened up just to see if there is any viable brain matter in there. Some A$$h0l3 in a dudge magnum decided 25 MPH was too slow for him, so he raced around a couple back roads, blew through a stop sign, and went past a school bus that had its lights on, just to get ahead of everyone. Guess who was sitting 10 cars back from the light, and was only 4 cars ahead, and guess who passed that jack pulling into my parking lot. Seriously? You Waste gas speeding around, put kids in jeopardy only to be 4 cars ahead and what does that save you? There are times some people just need a good beat down. But you know what they sayCan't Fix stupid. Takes a Special Kind of Stupid to race to a red light. I know this response is a little delayed, but I have to relay what happened last week. We had torrential rain, neighborhood streets were flooded, and I was driving on a residential street with speed bumps and a 25mph speed limit. I was driving 25mph, and this raving lunatic in a Dodge Charger passed me on a double yellow line, blew through a deep puddle that covered my windshield so that I couldn't see anything for a couple of seconds, then crashed over a spoke bump, until guess what? He got stuck at the red light where I pulled up right behind him. You are right acdii, YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID!

One place I used to work, my team would have to make occasional road trips to other offices. Our manager would drive in one car and one of our senior techs would drive the other. The rest of us would split between the two cars. Our manager was one of those aggressive drivers who would weave in and out of traffic, brake late and accelerate hard. The senior tech, drove fast, but rarely changed lanes and always kept a decent following distance. Invariably the manager would get boxed in by traffic, where as the the sea of traffic would just part for the senior tech to let him through. Wasn't uncommon for the senior tech to beat the manager to the location. You can imagine who I preferred to ride with. 1 djminfll reacted to this

corncobs Report post Posted August 4, 2013 Bet first responders aren't real keen on hybrid debadging Your comment sparked some interest researching this topic. I don't think it a big deal since first responders are getting trained to look for other signs as well since the hybrid bagdes are not always obvious or could be hidden after the crash. http://www.fireengineering.com/articles/print/volume-162/issue-7/features/hybrid-vehicles-separating-fact-from-fiction.html I think member kuzzi could get us some inside but maybe on a different / new thread about how hybrids are approached. GrySql Report post Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) Bet first responders aren't real keen on hybrid debadgingAs the article says, they approach all cars as though they are EV vehicles. Makes sense.I know that there has been training on emerging motor vehicle technology for many years.Still, all fire departments do not train exactly the same. --Question:I want to ask rfruth a question about the link in your Signature. One item describes the Atkinson start technology, where did you get that info from, it is very illuminating, I'd like to know more.Perhaps in another thread topic about the Atkinson ICE? "In a hybrid ICE engine, the electric motor spins the engine up to 1,000 rpm BEFORE ignition and combustion occur. Thus, the pistons are not under any pressure from ignition until they are already spinning at optimal rpm. Also, because the engine directly drives the oil pump, the oil pump is pressurized and lubricating the engine before combustion ever occurs" Edited August 4, 2013 by GrySql

kuzzi Report post Posted August 4, 2013 Your comment sparked some interest researching this topic. I don't think it a big deal since first responders are getting trained to look for other signs as well since the hybrid bagdes are not always obvious or could be hidden after the crash. http://www.fireengineering.com/articles/print/volume-162/issue-7/features/hybrid-vehicles-separating-fact-from-fiction.html I think member kuzzi could get us some inside but maybe on a different / new thread about how hybrids are approached.Lately we approach all vehicles with extreme caution. Securing power is our #1 concern. With a hybrid it is relatively easy since they are designed to shut off completely when in an accident and if not, the disconnect harnesses are easily accessible, clearly marked, and discharge stored energy immediately. Airbags are the greatest unknown/concern after securing power. Even with a cut battery cable in non EV vehicles, capacitors can store a charge large enough to set off an airbag. Even when cutting into vehicles, we have to make a peep hole with hand tools before cutting to make sure we aren't about to cut into a seatbelt tensioning canister or airbag module. Typically the HV lines in EV vehicles are WAY far away from where we will be making our typical cuts for a roof off-dash roll. Frankly, I am more concerned with airbags considering that I've heard the top of the line Suburban has ~50 airbags, and other automakers are following suit with adding more airbags. In order to make this post relevant to this thread, we made a rollover off I-45 last week where the driver was shaken up a little bit, but the tow truck driver was a complete ass. As FF (firefighters, not Ford Fusion haha), we are charged with securing power and this small Mazda truck was sitting on its side with the power/accessories clearly on (meaning the fuel pump may have also been on as well) but the engine was not running and we could not get inside the vehicle without stabilizing it (per our our standard operating procedures). So we did not know if the truck was just in ACC mode or if it even was still in gear as the driver had already been transported (stable) to the hospital. Simplest thing to do was knock out a portion of the windshield at the driver side corner and turn the keys off. This angered Mr. TowTruckDriver since he is supposed to clean up the scene and though the glass would get all over the grass, but apparently he did not know windshields are laminated and the broken pieces would stick together and just bend around so we could get inside. He called us idiots and said we would have to clean it up, so we let him go ahead and try to flip the truck upright (hoping the truck was still in gear it would roll start and hit our $750,000 apparatus and make him look like a tool). So he hooked up his chains and without even waiting for the access road to clear he drove his truck forward into traffic to upright the wrecked truck. He rushed the job of securing the wrecked truck and did even notice all four tires had busted and started pulling the wrecked truck on its rear wheels scraping the concrete and taking a good chunk of the road with it. He cut across three lanes of access road traffic and went into the nearest parking lot to assess his next actions, at this point we had enough and left the scene. 1 corncobs reacted to this

I want to tint the windows on my car like LASooner has in the photo above. The problem is in DE it is illegal to tint the front windows that dark. Is this the same in every state? I see a lot of cars with all the windows tinted even here in Delaware and I am wondering how you get away with it?
corncobs Report post Posted August 4, 2013 Here is a link to a website with tint laws for all states and it seems pretty accurate. http://www.tintlaws.com/ Some people just play there lucky card I guess but in Chicago they can give a ticket just being parked in the city with windows tinted to dark. 1 GrySql reacted to this

My front window is untinted, but the others are 20% so it looks dark through the front, but inside it's very bright. I am as they say, riding dirty. The guy who applied paint sealant and fixed my door dent took off the badges for me for free. Edited August 5, 2013 by LASooner
acdii Report post Posted August 5, 2013 I was wondering how to do this recently, as I'm not a fan of badges either. Any instructions/suggestions?Sort of the same here, dont mind the badges on the Fusion but the FLEX is now gone from my hood and in my glove box. The body shop repainted the front end, took them 4 different formulations until the got the right match, and I asked them to leave off the FLEX. I think it looks better now. majorleeslow Report post Posted August 24, 2013 We are very spoiled bunch since like the rest of the world who's. paying 2x the gas price get half. which means we are so used to wasting fuels, food, energy etc that we don't even realize that. Yes I have been a victim of a jeep overtaking me at a back road with posted speed of 30 taking over illegally 50 mph on the wrong side of the road. I can't justify why ppl behave so arrogantly just to save 2 minutes and most of the time get stuck at the same stop light ahead of you. I laugh at them all the time. its freakin hilarious. 2 acdii and corncobs reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted August 26, 2013 Some moron in a Jeep decided that 55 in a 50 zone wasn't fast enough, so he passed me, then proceeded to pass 2 other people in no passing zones after it changed to 35 MPH. Some people are just too stupid. On the way home another moron in a black SUV decided stops signs are optional, at well over 60 MPH. If I were a few MPH slower I would have been broadsided by that idiot. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

Well, you can voluntarily send more of your money to the government, eat less, sell the car and buy a bicycle and stay home.I'll continue what I'm doing, realizing every bit of it. MaineFusion Report post Posted August 29, 2013 A coworker of mine who has a serious lead foot had an even faster car riding her bumper while she was passing some cars. She then noticed a silver Mustang in the right lane, which is what our state police like to drive. She pulled over to the right lane and let the other car pass. Sure enough, it was an unmarked patrol car and the other driver got nailed. 4 acdii, keithsm2, hybridbear and 1 other reacted to this

Where do they put ppl when they arrest them? Lol we're seeing more an more Dodge Chargers here replacing the old Crown Vics and more and more of the new Taurus police cars. The Taurus Police Interceptors look at lot like the FFH from certain angles, especially the angles of the headlights.
