Fuel Economy on day trip today

We took a trip to see some friends today, drove from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Homestead, FL (the southern tip of Florida, just before heading down to the Keys), approximately 50 miles each way.

Because we were not in a hurry, I maintained the ACC at 60mph on the Turnpike, a little slower than I usually drive, and ACC set to the speed limit from the Turnpike to their house.

Here are my MPG pictures for the trip down, and the trip back.

Great mileage on both legs! I find myself a calmer/slower driver myself after I bought my FFH.

I know, same with me! I used to weave in and out, generally drove 75-80mph, was getting about 22mpg on my Volvo S60. Since I got the FFH, I am much calmer, have learned to enjoy the scenery while driving, and my other half keeps telling me how much better I'm driving in the FFH!

Yesterday I had not one, but two Special Stupids behind me. Then they passed me, both in SUV's. Now I was doing 60 on a 55 road when they passed, and here is the Special Stupid part, 1/2 mile from where they passed the speed limit was 30MPH. I just shook my head as they passed.

 

 

 

Added, relates to the slowing down and enjoying the drive in the FFH mentioned above, now back to our regular programming.

My daily commute is 28 miles one way with 5 of those miles being highway. The rest of those miles are at 50mph or lower taking back roads to Andrews AFB where I work. No roads trips yet which should drop my average some.

I have started trying to change my routes to get as much back-roads as possible, since I find the mpg numbers go up the more I avoid the highway! I'm starting to leave a little earlier than usual so I can slow down a little and still arrive on time. I'm currently at 45mpg on this fill-up, which is about 70% surface streets and only about 30% highway. But my overall average is still only about 42.6.
