keeping fingerprints off MFT screen

Recommended Posts

does anyone have a solution to the fingerprints that rapidly cover the MFT screen short of never touching it?..and what do u use to clean it?..does glass cleaner harm it?..the little blue cloth the dealer gave me seems to just smudge them around, not remove them.

I use a micro fiber cloth. It smudges it at first but you got to work it around and it makes it clear. It's like cleaning smudges off sunglasses, it takes a bit of wiping to completely remove them. If you just make one pass it will smear the smudge.

I bought a nu-shield screen protector for both my cars and use a eyeglass cleaning cloth to clean the screen without fear of scratching it. I keep the cloth in the overhead bin. With a screen protector you can use some eyeglass spray that I also got from my eye Dr. I spray it on the cloth and not the screen. The screen protector is about $16.00.

I got the triple A, I bought it for the purpose of minimizing finger prints and it definitely does that. If your issue is glare it doesn't due a lot for that but it does help.

I bought an old iPod 2 screen protector at TJMaxx for $4 and cut it to size.

Same here. There is a cleaning cloth that should come with the car. I just use a MF cloth and with a bit of wiping it comes off. Best to have one in the car that you can keep the dash and MFT screen clean with permanently.

I just don't touch it anymore and haven't cleaned it in awhile. I bought a stylus pen with a soft tip, keep it in the cup holder and when i need to touch the screen it works perfectly and it's within reach. It never leaves any marks so the screen stays perfect.

Thanks for that tip, I just went out and bought one, it works great!

Now that's a good idea, hadn't even thought about that!

I dug around and found one from an old iPod and it works great, a clever, simple fix for fingerprints.

Thanks!

I used a small piece of Velcro to attach the stylus near the screen. The screen just responds better to a stylus than a finger (than my finger anyway).

We did the same - a soft tip stylus works very well. The only thing that doesn't work with a stylus is if you want to try to scroll on a map - the stylus can't do that.

I cut a piece of clear vinyl and tucked it behind the trim panel around the screen so it stays in place without using any type of adhesive.

It does not show any fingerprints or bubbles. But because its a softer material, it does show some scratches, but it can't be noticed when the screen is lit up.

The vinyl is from a fabric store, 8 mil thick, a strip cost $1.50, enough to make about 10 protectors. Cut it with a straight edge and razor blade to 4 7/16 x 6 15/16 and it will fit perfectly.

I like the stylus idea and will probably get one. But I've been keeping a small spray bottle of glasses lens cleaner and a small micro fiber cloth (also for cleaning glasses) in the center console. A few sprays and a wipe and the screen is clean.

I noticed a lot of fingerprints after I first installed my Nushield. I was quite disappointed.

But then after one or two cleanings with some touchscreen cleaning fluid, I haven't noticed any fingerprint smears in months. I almost think the finger oils and/or cleaning fluid needed to permeate the Nushield screen protector to make the fingerprints not show up as much now.

So now I have good-sized barely-used bottle of touchscreen cleaning fluid riding around in the car with me, for no apparent reason at all now. smile.png

After I read your post, I also have the Nushield, I realized I haven't noticed any fingerprints for a long time now. There were some smudges in the beginning but now all I use is a soft micro fiber cloth to dust the screen. I bought the medical Nushield Triple A, antimicrobial, antiglare, antifingerprint screen protector. I'm real happy with it. It's been installed well over a year and actually looks better now than new.

I too have the Nushield on my touch screen with the same results. Not only are the fingerprint not noticeable, the screen readability in bright sun light is much better. Sad to think we need to add an aftermarket solution to "fix this" when it could easily be part of the build specifications.

GK, if you had one I had to get one, the same as you describe. ;)

It got a few fingerprints on it at first, wiped it with a microfiber cloth and now it stays clear, I don't even think about fingerprints anymore. Plus medical quality antimicrobial and all that other stuff. Amazing really, how do they do that?

I found a cheaper solution. I've trained myself to only touch the screen with my fingernail. My nails aren't long or anything, but it's effective.

OK, now your guys have gotten me to buy something else! :) I'm going with the Nushield. If gkinla andGrySql are happy with it, it must be good! For the folks who might read this and wonder where to buy them (like I did), just google "Nushield" and ye shall be rewarded with the website address. Simple. Once you're there, read about the different types they have then select "Ford" from the "Select Brand" pull-down and then go to the "Specify a Model" pull-down and choose the Fusion. Yep, they're pre-made in the correct size for the car and they have a nice little installation video to show you how to do the perfect job. Easy and reasonably priced, $15.00.USPS shipping adds about $3.00. There you have it! Enjoy! I know I will!No more fingerprints!
