It will try to correct on a light move of the wheel, but a firm move disables it.

LKA doesn't do a good job of picking up white lines on our salt-covered roads right now if driving when the sun is shining from a low angle either early in the day or in the afternoon. When the sun is high in the sky or after dark LKA picks up white lines just fine even on salt-covered roads.

I'm so used to having LKA in the FFH when driving on the highway that when I drive the Prius I tend to have a really hard time staying between the lines lol

I am beginning to think my LKA is kicking in sometimes. I can be driving along and it feels like the wheel is pulling to the right. Pretty strange feeling and quite random. I haven't used it in months.

I have experienced this too. Get surprised when the car suddenly steers on its own and when I look at the left screen it shows the LKA turned on. Although I had not intentionally turned it on, I feel that maybe while using the turn signal I might accidentally engage the LKA button on the turn signal lever.

That was my first instinct to see if I turned it on, but not the case on mine. Not sure yet if its the road or the car, seems to happen at random, some days on the same road, same lane it either does it or it doesn't. Not going to do anything yet until I can confirm the road or car as the cause.

Sometimes I notice the LKA kicking in on me. I know I didn't turn it on on purpose. I guess I accidentally hit the little button on the stalk when using the signals. :ohsnap:

Back before we got the Focus Electric when we were thinking about it I requested brochures in both my name & my wife's name to try to get a $750 private cash coupon. The brochures have finally started coming over the last couple days. Today the Fusion Hybrid/Energi brochure arrived. It is for the 2015 Fusion and shows the new Titanium rim on a number of the Fusions in the pictures. The more curious thing, though, is the paragraph describing LKA. It is not called LKA in this brochure, it is called "Lane-Keeping System". It says that the system senses when you wander and will alert you "through vibrations in the steering wheel to prompt you to steer back to center." The fine print for the asterisk reads: "Lane-Keeping System does not control steering." Is this just legal mumbo-jumbo to protect them from someone suing after a crash because they thought they could drive with no hands, or did they really change the LKA system to no longer adjust the steering for you? What happens for owners of 2014 FFHs with LKA? Will you car steer for you? On relatively straight roads in our car I can let my hands off the steering wheel for miles and the car will keep me between the lines. When it senses that my hands aren't on the wheel it beeps at me to put my hands on the wheel, but the car will steer itself through gentle curves in the road without any input from me.

I hope that Ford didn't take this feature away. The fact that the FFH not only warned you, but also steered you back into the lane, was something that differentiated the Ford system from their competitors. Hyundai is the only other company I have heard advertise a system that will steer you back into your lane. Toyota, Honda, GM, Chrysler, etc all have passive systems that only beep at you if you wander.

My car doesn't beep at me if I take my hands off of the wheel. It states in stern english "Put you hands back on the wheel" or something to that effect. It's been a long time since I did it.

That's what I meant. I believe our car makes a chime noise when that message is displayed.

My MKT yells at me even though my hands are on the wheel. The car tracks so nicely that I rarely need to make any inputs to the steering, so it thinks my hands are not on the wheel.

BTW, the name changed, but the system is the same.

The Lane-Keeping System* includes both the lane-keeping alert and the lane-keeping aid.** A camera mounted behind the windshield watches road lane markings to determine vehicle position and detect a lane departure. The system can operate during the day or night. Lane-keeping alert warns you through a series of steering wheel vibrations, which mimic a rumble strip, should the system detect an unintentional lane departure. Lane-keeping aid actively applies steering torque, which alerts you to direct your vehicle back into the target lane should the system detect an unintended lane departure.

  • *Lane-Keeping System does not control steering. The driver should always be in control and responsible for safe operation of the vehicle. **Driver assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s judgment.

I think that's why they filmed that Fusion driving off of the cliff. He was using Lane Assist on a curve. ;-)

Have you ever read the text under the car while it's going off the cliff?

Warning: Cars cannot fly do not attempt. Really? Are we now that dumb?

Lane keeping assist doesn't start to correct the steering until my car's halfway over the lane markings. It may shake a little before that, but any correction is very slow in coming. Is this correct for the feature or is my 2020 Fusion Energi out of calibration?

What settings do you have it set to?  The amount and delay in correction is all adjustable.  If you have the alert turned on, it will correct later than if you have alert turned off.

All it needs now are machine guns, rocket launchers and a bullet proof shield in the back.

Sounds like a movie car doesnt it.

I'd like a pop-up .50-cal to use on the tailgating pickups around here.  Seems the bigger the rig, the closer they wanna drive.

But that DB-5 sure sounds nice! 😄

I found all that out when exploring settings.  Didn't know of the difference in reaction time, tho (never use it).  My brother did try it on his '13 FFH - with his wife in the car - hands off the wheel, ;letting the car just keep things centered.  She tweaked - not knowing he was gonna do that. <grin>  He did tell me that the vibration alert can be defeated if you are truly changing lanes.  It will vibrate but if you use the turn signals, it seems to go away until in position again.

Like I say ... I haven't tried LKA so if someone brave wants to test this, go for it!
