Sending/Replying to text messages

Recommended Posts

According to ford's website here:

http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/send-and-receive-text-message-sync-myford-touch

It makes it sound like replying to text messages with the 15 default options is available via sync voice commands.

When I use "Reply to text message" it tells me that "Text messaging is not supported by this device".

I'm not sure whether "this device" is my phone or MFT on my 2013 Titanium. Can anyone confirm if this command actually works under 3.5.1?

Sync will read incoming messages for my phone and I can use the touch screen to send messages as long as I'm stopped. It usually takes me a while to navigate to the txt messaging page, so I can almost never do it at a single stop light, I have to hope for 2 in a row. If I could use the voice commands even to just choose who I'm sending the text to, that would save me so much time.

This issue has been discussed but I believe it didn't start base on text messages more related to Bluetooth issues

It really depends on the phone if text message reply is supported or not. I know for sure Apple devices don't work but believe to remember that some Andriod version do work.

If someone remembers the topic please post it here its hard to find on a mobile device.

Edit:

I think I found the topic I had in mind had actually nothing to with MFT at all. Page 2 a few posts down.

Thanks for the info. It seems the issue in that thread is that sending a text does not work at all.

For me, I can send it if I use the touch screen and manually go to phone/messaging/send text while stopped. The voice commands just don't seem to work. Thats why I was thinking it may be that my version of MFT is the "device" that is not supported.

I'm using a HTC One X with a custom android rom.

You're 2 steps ahead of me: you can receive and send text messages via MFT. MFT won't even read them from my Nexus 4, while it'll read, but not send them from my wife's iPhone 5 ... Sorry I can't help, unfortunately not too many devices are fully compatible with MFT.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 on AT&T with the same problem. I can send messages using the MFT touch screen interface but when I try using voice commands I get the error message that "this device is not supported". What's the difference between the touch interface and voice commands?

I agree it's almost as if not more distracting than texting. I like that you can respond with preset texts which IMO is as save as changing the music while driving and using voice commands.

I have a program on my phone called "Drive Safe.ly" that sends a reply text automatically when one is received letting the sender know I'm driving and can't respond. So I really don't need the voice commands when I'm driving. But I'm still curious as to what the difference is between sending a text with voice verses the MFT Touch system. :shift:

I refuse to pay for texts so I have them blocked for all our phones. Drawback is some sights send texts to reset passwords(like goog;e) so Im screwed on those.

For what it's worth, after the 3.6 update, "Reply to Text Message" now works for my phone (HTC One X with a custom rom).
