driving as I normally do, so far my.gas mileage is around 29 with close to sixty miles on odometer so far.

Is that what your lifetime average reads or is that the average you are seeing per trip?

 

My lifetime average was at 27 at 100 miles, it keeps creeping up. At 39 now and still rising at ~900 miles.

Ah, I see. The one that shows while driving is the lifetime average, it should go up slowly. When you shut the car down at the end of a trip, the left dash screen will give you a Trip Summary and Lifetime Summary. The trip summary helps to figure out what you should get on a regular basis. When you get comfortable with driving, you can reset the Lifetime average and it should read out a more consistent and satisfactory mpg.

 

You can play with the menus on the left dash screen to give you more information to help you get a feel for how the car wants to be driven. There's plenty of instruction on how to do this at the Ford websites.

I wonder if new FFHs are set to idle the ICE during testing and in moving cars during delivery so as to keep the batteries charged. Also, you'd think dealers would reset the average mpg before a new car is delivered.

At your main screen where the empower and other window are, hold down the OK button to reset it, it only resets the lifetime for that window, the trip 1 and 2 are reset individually. If you dont reset that one when you first get the car it will take forever for it to climb. I reset mine when I was sitting at the entrance of the dealer just before I pulled out, its at 42. something now, but trip 1 which I never reset is at 35. I use Trip 2 for my tank fills, Trip one for Day1 miles, and lifetime, and the top screen for long term MPG. Somewhere deep in the menu is the lifetime MPG reset which wipes out the summary.

So as I'm driving the mpg that shows is for lifetime?..How do I get the mpg just for that trip?..I have to go to trip 1 or 2 before leaving. the house.and reset it each time? or does it automatically display each trip mpg at the end of each trip when u stop?..sorry for all the newbie questions:)

When you shut off the car you will get a summary screen for that trip, followed by the lifetime summary. You can experiment with the trip 1 and 2 if you want, wont hurt anything unless you are keeping track of trips with them like most of us do.

Drive it more, you might be trying too hard though. Try not to keep it in EV too much, and see if that changes anything. I have only driven the car 3 times so far and have not really played the Hybrid game with it, just letting it do its thing and getting 40-43 in it. I'm approaching this car with a different attitude than the last one, and just driving it, and ignoring the tricks I used in the 10 and the Flex, and seems to be working.

 

Just use a light throttle when at speed, give it a healthy push from a light up to speed between the second and third mark on the Empower screen, and back off when approaching the speed you want to be at, then just lightly caress the throttle to help it stay there, and let the car do the rest.

They don't make "bad" ones anymore. They make lots of bad drivers though :) I thought I wasn't a "bad" driver, but 2k miles/2 months later I'm starting to see some good numbers.

I think that's the key, your break in period may be longer or shorter than advertised.

I've honestly found that this car is just meant to be driven. Obviously you gotta take it easy on the acceleration and braking, and a lot of driving over 70 MPH isn't going to do your MPG any favors, but in general it doesn't take a whole lot of adjustment to get good results from the car. Give it a little break-in time and eventually you'll be familiar with the feel of the car and I think you'll see results you'll be happy with.

If your passenger opens their door before you turn off the ignition, the Door Agar display will cover the MPG number. The numbers are also small in size and many times I have a hard time reading the amount of MPG (I know, get bifocals). I had many short trips yesterday and the MPGs ranged from 14.2 to 75. I think you should do the proceedure to reset the overall lifetime MPG. You'll be less frustrated that way.

That's not exactly true for me. If I restart my car and then turn it off without ever putting it in gear, the last trip numbers come up again.

I've never tried that. Next time I miss seeing the MPG number on a trip I really wanted to know it, I'll use that method. Thanks!

When I follow the instructions for re-setting the Lifetime Summary the little bar moves and says it's reset.

However the Lifetime Fuel use remains the exact same and nothing is reset.

How does one zero out the big 'Average MPG' numbers in the center of the left display?

I have the same problem, I don't know if that one can be reset. There's a second "Lifetime" status that can be reset, but it appears when you turn off the car,

The real lifetime; the one you see after shutting off the car can only be reset thru the setting menu in the left screen same spot as where to reset the oil lifetime. I don't have my car with me so I can't give very detailed instruction but its there somewhere.

I just did the reset for the first time on mine. You go to the Settings menu, then go to Display, then Lifetime Summary. Holding down OK resets everything, including brake score, back to Zero. My main MPG reading in Engage was 37.7, and the Lifetime was showing 36.1 mpg. Now I'mn starting from scratch at 7,400 miles.
