Should I wait for 2014?

Hi folks, I have an order in on a 2013 Fusion that I placed May 6th, and the car will be built sometime around July 1st, which as someone kindly pointed out, is within two weeks of Job 1 date of the 2014s. What I'm wondering is, from a financial perspective, if it doesn't make more sense to wait until orders for the 2014s can be made. Basically I'm paying for a year of depreciation the day I take delivery, as cars that are made 2 weeks later will get the next model year label.

 

While my wife really loves the Bordeaux Reserve color (she likes the fact that in some light it looks purple) and this color isn't available in 2013, money has a volume all its own.

Are there any features available for 2014 that you can't get on the 2013? I see that you ordered a HyTi in the 2013, if you went to a 2014 would you consider ordering an SE with the Push Button Start? Are there any changes in base price for the 2014?

 

If the cost is the same 2013 vs 2014 and the only difference would be no more Bordeaux Reserve color I think you decision should be if the Bordeaux color is worth the cost of 1 year of depreciation because that is basically what it is costing you. And if the saving 1 year of depreciation by ordering a 2014 is worth the additional wait time to get a 2014. I hope this helps!

I would wait for the 2014! It should come with the dual integrated tail pipes and aluminum pedals! On top of that, you can add the cooled seats and heated steering wheel :)

That would mean waiting until this time next year to get it!

Also the dual exhaust and pedals has not been confirmed.

Cooled seats & heated steering wheel are the only options with "Late Availability", correct? Oh, and the brick red leather package

Thanks for the input folks. I checked with the wife, and she's pretty sold on Bordeaux Reserve (purple is her favorite color). So it looks like I'll be buying the 2013 afterall.

It'll be 2014 for us or nothing.....IF we can work out a deal. We're not interested in anything but the Titanium, but the "any color as long as it's black" approach to the upholstery was a deal-breaker. The brick red leather I can live with, so we shall see.

This may have nothing to do with OP's decision, but I've said it before, so I'll say it again: Extras like heated seats, heated steering wheels, and even ventilated seats seem unwise additions to a hybrid vehicle of any brand. If you want something to suck the joules out of your HVB so fast you can see the gauge fall, turn on heated seats and steering wheels. I think it's better to wear gloves and put a sheepskin on the seat -- in almost any car, let alone an HEV.
