Very fascinating article, it's a little long, but worth the read. As hybrid owners we have all shown ourselves to be somewhat energy conscious and this is a very interesting take on the worldwide energy situation

It is always a controversial subject, but I learned long ago from oil people that crude oil is regenerating itself. That we will never run out, because it is being made as I type this. It is not based on prehistoric decay, but other forces. There is a lot on the Interwebs about this phenominon if you google it.

I found this to be particularly interesting:

 

 

Unlike Britain and the United States, the Japanese failed to become “the owners, or at any rate, the controllers” of any significant amount of oil. (Not that Tokyo didn’t try: it bombed Pearl Harbor mainly to prevent the U.S. from blocking its attempted conquest of the oil-rich Dutch East Indies.)

To date there has not been one single source of energy that can compete on a 1:1 scale with petroleum. When you also factor in how much of our everyday lives involve products created from petroleum, it is mind boggling. Drink from a plastic cup? Petroleum, Light a Cigar, Petroleum, type on a computer, petroleum.

 

Ford has done some things with non petroleum based products in their cars, making seat foam from soy. But when you consider the energy used to mash the Soy to get the oils from it, and other ingredients needed to make that foam, in the end, petroleum played a part in it. Crazy isnt it.

I wouldn't say I'm somewhat energy conscious, but more Fiscally conscious. I save lots of $$ in gas now. lol. Interesting article though, thanks for sharing.

It would be disastrous if this sort of "we'll never run out of oil" attitude ever became public policy, especially now that we're just taking the first, tentative steps away from fossil fuels. And yet this is exactly the sort of thing that appeals to all the worst in the American mindset.

Even at the rate we are going now, we may not run out. It would just become so expensive no one could afford it and the last ounce would be locked away in a museum. :shift:

I honestly believe this whole thing about oil reserves running out is a farce designed to solely drive oil and gas prices up.
