RedLdr1 Report post Posted May 3, 2013 I have not seen any yet. Unfortunately a lot hybrid owners consider "performance" to be a "dirty" word. So "performance enhancements" for any hybrid are almost a oxymoron and seldom marketed as they won't sell well. The funny part is when something like a low restriction exhaust is marketed as a fuel economy improvement / enhancement it becomes "okay"... go figure.. :doh: Anyway, that being the case you need to look for ICE performance mods for the other model Fusions that can be easily modified to transfer over to the FFH. Low restriction cat back exhausts, Cold Air Intakes, and possibly a custom tune should become available through the same sources that supply the 2.0 EcoBoost "hot rod" folks their tweaks. How much bang for your buck you will see is debatable though... I suspect due to the dual power nature of the FFH it may not respond very well to traditional performance enhancements. I don't know if I'll try to mod the FFH's powertrain but I just might tweak the suspension a bit when some good spring, shock, and sway bar kits become available. Tampering with Ford's proprietorial engine management system that manage the eCVT, Traction motor and ICE sounds like a nightmare.Admittedly, the FFH's ICE exhaust note is not very inspiring but I'd suspect your warranty would be voided if you were to start installing power-adder's to what is supposed to be an economical vehicle. kuzzi Report post Posted June 2, 2013 (edited) My usual first step is to add a less restrictive exhaust, but that's for the trucks and bikes. I don't want to mess with the noise level on the car. The next step is a less restrictive air filter, but the last OEM air filter I removed, I ran water through it to see what its flowrate was. The water went through it like it wasn't even there, so I don't think a filter will make a difference. You can add a cam that closes the intake sooner so it gets more fuel in the cylinder instead of pushing it back into the manifold. It is a raised bridge over the freeway and I have to go in regen braking mode on the other side so once I'm at the top of the bridge, I regen more power than I use for rest of the way home. lolder Report post Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) Hacking a hybrid will be a nightmare. Changing cams and EV modes will completely change the intent of the car and surely void the warranty. We've had this discussion before with the first generation FFH. The Atkinson hybrids operate at close to full throttle plate openings most of the time so that might be the reason for the larger muffler. The whole design theory is that the charge is blown back into the intake manifold to simulate the mechanical operation of an Atkinson ICE. That creates the larger regions of low BSFC in the fuel map that the ICE operates in. If you bought a FFH for top speed and acceleration performance, you bought the wrong car. If you want to improve economy, it's likely you can''t since the Ford Motor Co. can't. Really, the biggest impact we can have on fuel economy is with how we drive. It only takes a few bad stops or starts to destroy the MPG of a given trip. Speed also has a major impact on MPG.
