Give up?? Looks what is missing. Yep, the chrome trim piece under the rear quarter window came off. I was parked this afternoon when something caught my eye. The top edge of the trim piece was slightly apart from the car. I touch it and the piece came right off. Any ofthe glue or adhesive that held it on seems to be gone. I am shocked it stayed on like it did and I was doing some higher speed driving this weekend. I took my car to get an oil change(which has its own issues now), and they washed it as part of the service. Maybe the force of the car wash knocked it loose. When I take it back to correct the oil change issue (they put in too much oil and I want it drained and filled to the right level), I will have them reattach the piece hopefully. Talk about cheap and "ghetto" looking....ughhh.

Crazy! Personally I like the chrome all the way around (luxury and titanium). If I didn't have the chrome all the way around on my car, I would look at removing all the chrome. I do like the look of either all chrome or no chrome.

I was actually looking into adding the full chrome trim (depending on cost), but i wonder if it will hold up given this. Easily could be a fluke. Taking it in tomorrow to have the body shop look at and hopefully reattach it when i take the car back to correct the oil change issue.

Update: Took it in yesterday to have the body shop attempt to reattach the chrome trim piece, and unfortunately they were not able to attach it. He attempted to get it to stay, but we couldn't figure out how it would stay on, even looking at the other side. The chrome piece on the underside is smooth so i didn't notice any adhesives or glue. They took pictures of the car, trim piece, VIN and odometer to log it as a warranty repair, and he will give me a call back to set up an appointment.

 

Part of me wants to just attempt to glue it myself after the fiasco with their service department, but the body shop has been better about things. The guy seemed more concerned when i told him about my oil change issue, and was going to look at the oil level too until he saw the car was parked in front of the service area, which i understood he didnt want to be seen helping me out after service looked at it and told me 5.5 qts was ok....grrrr.

I can't open the picture, but from the description, it is the same exact issue as mine. I noticed it basically the same way as lmp180psu... Wtf Ford?

 

I took it to dealer last week and they couldn't fix it. Took pics, vin etc to log it as warranty repair. The service mgr has ordered the part (dont know if it is just the weather strip with chrome trim or the quarter glass and the weatherstrip/chrometrim..

 

Appointment this Saturday and they have a glass guy coming in as well. Will let you know how the fix goes.

Car was at the dealership on Saturday and they fixed it. Apparently they had to get a glass company to replace the entire rear quarter glass along with the weatherstrip which has the chrome tirm piece.

Wow, it is that involved? The dealer body shop finally submitted the warranty claim and they are waiting for parts, but they didn't tell me what the parts were. Wonder if they will fix it the same way.

Once the part is in, it is a cpl of hours of labor (assuming your dealer's body shop can do the glass work). In my case, they had to call in someone from a glass comany. I dropped it off on Friday evening and picked it up on Saturday evening as I didn't have time to sit at the dealership for few hours. I know they didnt start the work until around 1.00pm on Saturday and the car was ready by 3.30pm.

 

I didn't get a copy of the paper work on Satuday as I was in a hurry. Once I get the copy, i will know exactly what they changed (whether the entire glass+weatherstrip/chrometrim or just just the weatherstrip/chrometrim)

I hope it is just the weatherstripping and chrome piece, since i have my windows tinted and really don't want to have to have it retinted.

So, the same thing has happened to me, the chrome piece has separated on the drivers side rear quarter window bottom. Took it to dealer, they have seen at least one other case. In that case it could not be reattached so they had to replace the whole window. My warantee ended four months ago, but have less then 25,000 miles on car. I have filed a complaint with Ford as this seems to be a manufacturing problem. Hopefully it can be repaired as a recall or customer consideration issue. Otherwise, the cost would be $350 To repair a piece of chrome!

Why can't you put a blob of silicone adhesive or some 3M UHB molding tape under the trim piece?

 

Gotta be better than a new window or $350 out of your pocket.

I am going to try something like that. I wanted to give the DEALER a chance to fix it with an " after warantee adjustment", but that will still leave me out $200. The dealer had tried to fix another customers window, but it just could not be done as it has to slip under the casket etc. and would not set right. So, I messed with it a for an hour today, and think I can get it reasonably. If it holds I will post the fix.it has to slide in slots front to back. I was able to get it 95% in the rubber casing. Tomorrow will add adhesive first. Shouldn't be happening though! If enough people experience this defect, perhaps Ford will issue a recall.

Recalls are for safety related issues. I seriously doubt a loose molding is high on their priority list for recalls.

This happened to ours as well. The dealer was required to remove the small window and replace it with a new one. After that was done they had it retinted to match the rest of the windows since the tint was dealer installed when we bought it new.

 

I believe there is a TSB or recall on this, but not positive.

Ok, the fix can be done without replacing the whole window. I am not sure how long this will last, but here goes:

1. Clean surfaces, apply some kind of lubricant to assist getting chrome into groove, dishwashing soap might be best.

2. You place a silicon adhesive under the chrome piece, then starting about one inch from front of rubber piece, get the chrome in the lower groove and upper lip simultaneously, then slide forward to be flush to front rubber flap. Carefully slide the top under the rest of the lip while pushing from bottom to get chrome in the lower groove working front to back. Make sure it is in that groove. Now when you get to the very rear of the chrome, you will need to lift up the whole rubber trim from the body,so as to get it to set in the rear groves. Only the bottom of the chrome is a "u", the very back and top end are L shaped, so just slide in place. You need to keep pressure on the front while mounting the whole thing so it takes two people, then some kind of bracing to keep the chrome in place front and back while glue sets up over night. I then applied a clear silicon adhesive under the top lip, avoid over applying! I taped the chrome first so any excess ooze can be removed with the tape. Clean up with mineral spirits before it dries on the chrome.

3. The next day I also applied the clear silicon adhesive to the very front to avoid any air entry underneath the chrome, and small interrupted strips of glue ( with taping) on the underside, and very back of the chrome, to try to keep it from separating.

So, proceed at your own risk, be careful will application of glue, and clean up any excess. Took about 1.5 hours total, and a lot cheaper then $350!
