Newbie Questions

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd create a Topic for new owners to post questions as they are trying to figure out their new cars.

I'll start with a couple.

When I lock the door I like to hear some kind of chime or noise other than blinking lights to let me know my car did lock. If you are walking away as you lock, the sound lets you know you succeeded. Is this possible with Fusion? Right now I think the lights blink but no sound.

Is there an audio jack to connect an MP3 or phone directly to sound system. I see a lot of connections, but did not see an auxillary input.

Good topic;

I think I can answer your questions.

Q1: if you hit the lock button twice it sounds the horn to let you the car is locked.

Q2: I haven't tried it myself but the yellow connector of the video input should work as a replacement aux input question is does it work while driving since the video function is disabled. Otherwise USB is you friend of course this depends if you have MFT for the video.

On mine, if you hit the lock button twice the car chirps it's horn at you.

Edit: Beat me to it!!

Aprreciate the responses. Thanks!

I think i tried the yellow connector this morning and my input didn't seem to fit. I didn't want to force it.

I would love to get all my music on USB but will have to figure out how to go from itunes to USB.

I would think you could find an adapter at Radio Shack. There have everything, even parts to build a bomb.

All my music is on thumbdrives. Even iTunes that been converted to mp3. Here's how..

Getting it from iTunes to USB is very simple; just copy the artist folders to your USB. That's what I did for my SD card works just fine I did also execute the program you can download from syncmyride.com to correct any missing settings for artist, album artist, etc.

Edit:

Syncmyride.com > sync updates > sync utilities

The yellow connection is for composite video. You could use a splitter from audio connector at the phone to R/W at the console connectors. Bluetooth is also possible I've read, but may be sketchy.

I lock my doors by touching the top of the handle. It doesn't beep, but I can hear it lock and the red lock light turns on.

Isn't that neat! I catch myself using the touch pad to lock the doors, and say DOH when I realize all I have to do is touch the door handle now. Ford finally got what Toyota and Hyundai have had for a few years now. Too bad you have to get the Ultimate trim package to get it.

I realize I was asking the wrong thing with my second question. I don't really need an Auxillary hookup because all the music on my phone can be streamed to the stereo. Things really have changed a lot in seven year, and it all works together so easily and well.

Was playing with the stereo today and the surround setting really rocks. It sounds amazing playing the music on my phone.

Grrr so jealous of you HyTi owners with your push button start and no need to take the key out of your pocket...

Snicker.........

It takes some getting used to having one of each, the Fusion uses the key, and the Flex is just like the HyTi. I found myself locking the doors with the keypad, and then think, DOH, dummy, just grab the handle!

is there a way to see the MPG for the current trip as it progresses?

On my Camry I had a display which updated the MPG for the current trip during the trip.

So I had certain landmarks on my way to work, or on my way home from work, where I knew that I should be averaging 30 MPGs by then or 35 MPGs by then, and I could tell if I was doing better or worse than my normal avarage.

I haven't seen a way to gauge this on the Fusion except for at the end of the trip. Is their a current MPG readout somewhere?

if not, that would be a very useful thing to have.

Scan Gauge. This is why Prius users started using them so they can keep track of key components to maximize their MPG. It has 4 displays you can customize, and one of them is current average and instant MPG readouts. The Fusions dont have a way to do it without resetting the dash each time.

I just sat at a gas station looking to put gas in before leaving tomorrow on a trip to Florida. Manual says the fuel door is locked, and that I need to press the fuel button in center console, to unlock. For a moment I thought they forgot to put a fuel button in my car.

Had to come home to figure it out.

It turns out there is no fuel button. You just press on fuel door and it opens. Is this just on Titaniums or is the manual just wrong?

This feature is only made clear in the Quick Reference Guide. It was one of the first things I mentioned back in November that dealers need to educate buyers about. It sure made me feel stupid. I was using my fingernail to open it.

That paragraph only applies to the Energi, which has a pressurized fuel tank. I have the fuel button in my Hybrid, but not by choice...

What do you mean you have the fuel button in your hybrid?

Yes I felt very awkward hogging the space at the gas station and looking thru the guide on my iPad, and trying to find the fuel button :)

Where do they put the park assist then if they use that spot for the fuel door?

They hooked up the park assist wires to the EV button, so it still works. The fuel button doesn't do anything - and I don't have a park assist button anymore.

I dropped it off this morning again to fix their mistakes ...

Update: I might have mis-read your question. In an Energi with Park Assist the buttons are smaller, so there's actually 3 buttons there instead of just two.
