steveo358 Report post Posted March 31, 2013 Hi, So we decided to stop by the lot today where we ordered our fusion. I just wanted to check out colors, and see if they had an Ice Storm. They did, but it was a cmax. Checked it out, color has a lot of change to it, sun versus shade. Was looking aroung the cmax, and at the corner by the hatch, where the window meets the hatch on lower right corner, was what appeared to be a big ol weld booger, that had been painted right over. I was really disappointed to see this, thinking the quality at the Hermosillo plant left a lot to be desired, till I walked to the other side, and in the rear window was a sticker saying built with pride in Michigan. I work with Spanish guys, and these guys work harder than anyone Ive seen, and take pride in their work. Im glad my car is being built there, especially after seeing this. Although this isn't mine, or your car, what would you do if this was the car you ordered. Obviously any fix to this is going to mess the paint up. Just very frustrating to see coming straight from the factory, and going through what I would think as a lot of quality control. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted March 31, 2013 Wow, adds to what I said in another thread about the Fusion being built at the new plant next year, I would much rather have a car built in Mexico where the QC standards are known to be good, and cars coming out have been showing very high quality than out of a new plant, with new workers, who most likely will be union workers who really could care less about what they are doing other than the pay check they receive. I have a very low opinion of union workers, sorry just been around too many of them.
tr7driver Report post Posted March 31, 2013 I have a 05 Mustang GT Convertible that was built at Flat Rock. The quality of that car is excellent. I hope things didn't go downhill there.
acdii Report post Posted March 31, 2013 One can only hope. I still wouldnt want one of the first years off that line, if anything shows with the one I got, first year models, oh never mind, my 10 is a first year and has been great.
steveo358 Report post Posted March 31, 2013 The picture doesn't do it any justice. Its a big obvious spot, and I know someone had to have seen that before it made it to the lot. I would be pissed if that was my car, and don't know what I would do, possibly telling them to make me another, or find a new one already made.

tombarker13ffh Report post Posted April 1, 2013 (edited) I'd make the dealer get it ground down and repainted on their dime. My 2012 Boss came from Flat Rock with a bent pushrod in the driver side door lock. When you unlocked the car with the key fob, it'd send the little trim piece from around the manual lock flying to the passenger side lol. They replaced it. steveo358 Report post Posted April 1, 2013 repainting would never be as good as factory.
acdii Report post Posted April 1, 2013 Aint that the truth, my 10 was repainted and what a poor job they did. I can do a better job, and just might do that too if I get bored enough and repaint the passenger side correctly.
tombarker13ffh Report post Posted April 3, 2013 As good as factory, no, but I don't think Ford and/or your insurance company will see the metal chunk as a 'total loss'.
djminfll Report post Posted April 11, 2013 When I ordered my Fusion, I was concerned that it was being built in Mexico, where I don't know if they have good Quality Control standards in place. But after reading this, and seeing the high quality of the build on my Mexico-built Fusion, I'm glad mine is from South of the Border! 1 acdii reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted April 11, 2013 Hate to say it, but they do a very good job there, unlike the plants up north, even in Canada. It's the workers for sure, grateful to have a job and it shows, they put their pride into the work. Can't really say the same for the union shops up here, I have worked at a few and can see, "hey what do I care, they cant fire me, I'm union" was pretty much the attitude. That may change though with the way the economy has been.
