patcic Report post Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I want to thank everyone for their hard work in coming up with a spare tire solution for the Fusion Hybrid. I had a side wall blow out recently (no way to re-inflate) after hitting a pothole in Detroit and while waiting for the tow truck, told myself I would never allow this to happen again. I confirmed that the 2013 Focus and 2013 non-hybrid Fusion use the same donut spare tire with wheel part number CV6Z1015B that others have posted in this forum (I assume this would be true for the 2014 models as well). I went to my dealer and they brought around a used 2013 Focus, pulled the donut spare out and put it into the spare tire compartment in my Fusion and it fit just fine. I then went looking for a used donut spare and found a complete 2013 Focus donut spare tire (tire size 125-80-R16) for $100 + $30 shipping on eBay. I then followed the advice of this forum and found a 2001 Windstar jack, shipping included on eBay for $35 (Windstar models 1999-2003 are the same jack). Now, there were some early posts about possible concerns that the donut tire wheel rim would either not fit around the regenerative braking calipers or that once installed on the car the smaller tire size and the increased number of tire revolutions would cause problems with the car's traction control, braking or other systems. I called a Ford engineer friend and he said there should absolutely be no problems with what I was planning to do. Ford would not create a different or larger set of brake calipers for the Hybrid and he assured me the wheel rim should fit. He said the worst thing that could happen while driving with the spare tire on the car was that the computer system may notice the smaller tire and shut down the traction control. He said it would not damage the car mechanicals in any way. I jacked up the car, installed the spare on the passenger side front axle and took it for a spin. I got up to 40 mph with no issues at all other than a slight pulling when braking to the side of the car with the spare on it. I pulled out the Styrofoam tray in the wheel well in the trunk, put the donut tire in and jammed the jack next to it, nice and snug. I haven't heard it moving around at all. Problem solved! Thanks again to all who contributed to this issue. Shame on Ford for not giving buyers an option for a real donut spare. I hope this info is helpful to others here. Good luck! Even if your new donut spare caused problems on the front drive wheels (and you had a tire failure on the front) you could move a rear tire to the front and then install your new donut spare on the rear. A little more work for you on the roadside but it would avoid any driveability issues asociated with the front drive wheels. This is the complete unit that is in the 2013-2014 Fusions. It will fit perfectly. I decided to buy this as one unit as I didn't want to scramble around looking for a tire+rim+ jack. Thanks for posting the photos. I couldn't fit my jack in widthwise, but I never tried it lengthwise. (DUHH). It fit nicely. I wrapped it in an anti rattle towel. This fits perfectly and I glad I bought this unit. I had 2010 fusion reg before that, and before that I had expedition and and two explorers.not at the same time . My 1st car was a 86 t bird turbo coupe . I knew the new fusion didn't have a spare and I got a flat last night . Its been a ruff winter and lots of potholes around and a couple of times i hit a pothole i couldnt believe my tire pressure light didnt go on. you know one where you say ouch that one hurt . I used the fix a flat can and it didn't work, I looked for my roadside service card but couldn't find it , I don't even think I have roadside this one is a finance and most others were leases and they had , I never used it though. I read on here that someone used it and they only take u to a dealer , that's no good if ya wanna go home! Luckily my wife had triple a and recently added me on as another driver . while we were waiting a comaro was bolting down the road and i swore it was gonna hit us , it was very close to the far right lane and i kinda braced myself because i really thought that this was it . Scary out there on a sat night lots of people drinking, textin etc . AAA arrived in about 30 minutes and towed us home only 4 miles home no charge. The guy said fix a flat never works and he also said a lot of car company don't offer spares like bmws .Now it's Sunday and I need my car fixed for work Monday , sts tire isn't open on Sundays , went to sears they don't have it in stock 5 to 7 day wait and wanted 247 for instal .Ford dealer closed on Sunday , finally pep boys had two brands of same tire in stock Michelin For 299 and Vulcan for 206 installed . I went with Vulcan . They did it in about an hour . I bought road flares and a butterfly jack and crowbar and now I need a donut spare. I have 18 tires. I don't know we're to buy one sear pepboys don't sell them ford website doesn't have them if anybody know where I can get one that would be great , I found this forum last night after my ordeal, ( could of been worse though ). I recently ordered the whole setup for about $110 on ebay.
