Newer Fusions getting better mileage?

Recommended Posts

As I have been reading these forums it seem like the very first Fusions and the later (Jan till current) owners seem to be getting better mileage than the Middle owners. Any one else getting this? Or am I just imaging stuff?

Cars built the last week of Oct first Nov are the ones that are having issues. Seems like those built prior to and at least 1 week after that time frame are doing OK.

Mine was built October 19th and I have been doing great. Had a ~50km commute this morning at -2*C and got 5L/100km (exactly 47MPG) It was a mix of highway and city driving.

FYI, I did have the heat on, but turned it down until I got onto the highway. Once I knew the engine was going to be on I turned on the heat and left it on Auto.

Glad to see that the 18" wheels are not holding your MPH (LPK) back .

Maybe a dumb question, but where do I find the build date?

Look up your VIN on FordEtis. The build date will be on the right side in the DD.MM.YYYY (European) format.

Actually they had a meeting in Hermosillo and decided once they built Acdii's on Nov 1st, they said 'oh crap let's not do that again' and after that they were golden. So after his, they broke the mold.

Mine was built on 11 Dec and is sunshine & lollipops.

Mine was built 10/19/2012 and I get poor mpg, averaging 35.1 currently. Looked up the VIN on Etis and is shows it as a Ford Transit Connect, right color and engine etc.

Wonder if there is a way to determine the software running on the cars, I expect there are variations in cars but no idea where to start looking

If your build date was 10/19 I think that's the same build date as JSKershaw up higher in this thread, was built on 10/19 but they sent Rip Van Winkle to move it into the rail car and he napped in it for 3½ months.

So if they were built the same day, so that makes a software version kinda unlikely. Do you have a short commute or other short trips that might be a factor?

Typical commute is 14miles around the Fairfax county parkway, With the warmer days recently my mgp is slowly on the rise, got 36 to work and 42 on the way home. Best day so far, hope this upwards trend continues.

14 miles should sure be enough for things to warm up, but as you'll read in the threads there are some having issues with their operating temps being too low. Terrain/winds are also factors so one way may be better than the other, my MPG on the afternoon commute is normally 3-10MPG better than the morning commute, which is partly due to terrain but also probably outside temps too, and that should get better as you noted. I go straight up 95 to Springfield then beltway to Tysons then west toward Dulles airport, but never touch the Fairfax Cty Pkwy.

January 21st, 2013 - Get about 32 MPG, I've seen as high as 44.5 But that's going very slow on the highway at 100 KM/h (62 MPH) which no one in canada goes... In the city? Brutal! Like 20L/100 KM worse than a conventional gas car...

JSKershaw, why did it take so long after your car was built to get it??? From Oct 19th, to Feb 21st?? That's 4 months!!!

Yep, 4 months. It's was stuck in TBD land in Mexico. My re-order should be arriving next week. I think I might go to the dealer and take a look at it and see if there's any differences.

I bought mine about a week ago and we are doing ok. Ours was built on 12/22 and averaging on 10mi trips to work at 30 mph 38.7 mpg. After the car was warm I took 5 mi trip and got 50.1 and 45.2 back this was also at 30 mph. The short commute to work isn't doing the mileage to good. It has been in the low 30s in the morning.

Mine seems fine.

Newer Fusions getting better mileage?

So what build dates are considered to be newer? How far does the "newer" date go back to?
