Ford MPG Fraud - Dont Let Ford Get Away With It

Recommended Posts

www.mpgfraud.com My petition failed because Ford could give a rats behind about its customers. I received a few calls from Ford and asked about the mileage and like all you got the same answer " mileage may vary" "you dont know how drive". I asked them to buy my vehicle back and came back with a big fat "NOT POSSIBLE". I have since traded in my vehicle for a Lexus es300h which is epa estimated at 40/39 and got 41mpg on my 15mile trip home, with heater set at 75f, seat heater set low, radio on, drls, fog lights, you name it. I would have been happy if it was 37-38 at 45f but I beat the estimate. Obviously my driving wasnt the problem. This car has major issues. It doesnt retain heat well and the ICE constantly turns on. The car can not coast worth a damn and to get decent numbers Ford recommends not using your heater or AC or radio or anything that will drain battery. This car was designed and programmed for the EPA test. Thats why the max EV mode is 62mph. Based on the EPA test they only have to be at 60mph for 60 secs then drop down to 48mph. Obviously the EPA test is flawed but Ford did not have to build and program a car like this. They did it specifically to scam the public. I will be joining the lawsuit and I encourage everyone else who is experiencing the lousy mpg to do the same. Dont let Ford get away with scamming consumers.

Comments: Not even close. I get about 32 mpg on my 47 mpg car... 10, no no... 15 mpg difference. freaking brutal. a lot of people online have found there are problems with the car's software: - it does not close the air flaps when the engine is cold if you're at a low speed which hurts mpg. - the engine runs incredibly rich and puts way too much gas / air mixture. - the engine can't keep warm and looses its temperature very very quickly. - the engine runs at high rpm even with the car is in park and the battery is full.

So fynak. You traded a car in for a car that cost $11k more base price for 8 mpg more? Seems like you won't make your money back on that deal in the gas savings.

Dont expect any help from Ford. Been that route and was basically told to shut up and go away. They really dont care if you know how to achieve good MPG in any other car, not even when its another one of the same model as long as they can get it within certain specs in their test drive, and they test drive it in such a manner that it can get in that range, which only a psychotic Prius driver would do. To date I have driven 2 Prius, 2 Camry Hybrids, 2 Cmax, 1 2010 Fusion hybrid and 2 2013 Hybrids, and out of all of them, only one did I have a problem getting decent MPG out of. All the Toyotas I met or exceeded the EPA ratings in, only the 2013 models have I not been able to do that. Only the one I have do I have problems even trying to hit 40 in it.

FWIW though, even though it does not get anywhere near what I expected to get out if it, it is still better than an EB based model would get, and the car is exceptional in what it does and handles. My only real bitch is with Ford.

Its not about gas or even the price of the car. Its about the feeling of being ripped off everytime I sit in that car. If they had priced the fusion hybrid at 40k I still would have purchased it and been happy if mpg numbers were close.... 41 42 no complaint

I know where he is coming from, I felt the same way, still do, but $5000 does buy a lot of gas, tints, floor mats, spoiler, FLAMES, etc. :) There really is no other car out there for this price with these options, that can get 35 MPG let alone in the 40's. I can get an Avalon with most of that the Fusion has, but at $10K more, not really worth the extra 5 MPG.

Just going to relax, enjoy the car, fill it up more often than my other one(ZING Had to have at least ONE here :) ) and hope that Ford wasnt blowing more smoke up my ass saying that they are investigating this and may have a fix soon.

One thing we all forget and i forgot when I bought my lemon is don't buy the first year of a new model car. And that's with any car. Too many bugs and problems. You may get a good one but more than likely there will be problems and recalls. Just saying I made a mistake buying this car and should have waited a year.

Same here, but the going rate on my F150 was too good to pass up. If I waited a year, I would have been upside down on it, as it was I still had a few grand in equity in it.

Is it about time for them to pull the plugs again?

Very curious to see how they look the second time around.

Yup that's pretty much what everyone is saying "All the Toyotas were able to meet or exceed EPA numbers". So why would Ford on earth build a car that gets 15 MPG worse in real world driving? Lemony?

Marketing! Pure and simple. They figure if x number of owners actually do get this kind of mileage, then no problem, and depend on the disclaimer YMMV for all the rest. Ford is going to hide behind the Your mileage may vary rule on this.

Toyota on the other hand builds their cars for real world driving and tests them that way too, so when you get one you are more than likely going to get very close to or exceed the EPA in them. Just for knowledge I started a thread on the prius forum on the Prius V and wanted to see what owners are actually getting and just about all of them are hitting or going past EPA in them. Since Ford is targeting the Prius V with the Cmax, the fact that the V is getting and beyond its numbers and the Cmax is far below it, most buyers who are looking at EPA will tend to go to Toyota. Only buyers who would rather have the power, handling and options will go to Ford. One thing for sure, Toyota buyers will never switch to Cmax with the poor record they are getting.

Let's stick with the facts please according to Fuelly it looks FFH average is about 38mpg's not 32mpg's and by the time summer is over it should be well over 40mpg's. I think it is reasonable to expect similar MPG's as people in southwest and FL are getting now.

Look at my numbers with fuelly. Sucks. Weather has been somewhat warmer lately too. Short trips though for the most part.

When was yours built? Is it one of the late October/Early November builds?

Well from what other dealers are telling me, the resale on these is not very good, so far the highest bid on mine was 27500 on trade for used. Looks like in order for me to get the least amount of loss is to wait for the HyTi I ordered to come in. When it does, I can find out one way or another if the build date has anything to do with it, or if it was just me(I doubt it, doing OK with my other FFH). When I road tested a later built one it appeared to do much better, but it was a short trip too.

So for me it just seems like it was the cold weather and well yes the short commute. Trips lasting 15 minutes or more I'm able to get 35-52 MPG depending on the speed and what seems to be most importantly - the outside temperature.
