hybridbear Report post Posted June 14, 2013 man i wish i can get that many miles on a full tank hopefully when i get the car backI have been hoping to see 700 miles. On the C-Max Hybrid Forum they have a thread for ppl to post 700 mile tanks and quite a few have. But this is because their cars will take a full 13+ gallons when the DTE says 0. Our cars only seem to take 12.5 gallons when the DTE says 0. I went about 10 miles past 0 DTE last night and had to really force in 12.55 gallons...something isn't right with our gas tanks... Unfortunately, the Hybrid doesn't qualify: REDUCED FUEL TANK CAPACITY—EMPTY REFILL TSB 13-6-3 38 TO 45 LITERS (10 TO 12 GALLONS)- BUILT ON OR BEFORE 4/2/2013 Back on topic. I had another 50+ trip this morning :) Yesterday on the way home, I drove it like a normal car, accelerated and stopped quickly, took the highway and set the cruise to 70 MPH. I only got 33 MPG on that trip, didn't even bother taking a picture. 2 Da0ne and gadgetguy reacted to this

acdii Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Ok 100% convinced the other car was broken! Just drove 50 miles, 39 of which were Interstate @70 mph. I got 45 mpg, and was able to keep it between 40 and 50 for most of the drive with 70% battery. I have pics but posting with my phone. 8 neod192, gadgetguy, corncobs and 5 others reacted to this

gadgetguy Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Now this is more like it!!!! :banvictory: Awesome morning today in Middle TN with temp at 63 when I left the house and low humidity. :shift: Cold ICE and battery at 3/4 of a charge. The battery I have found in my experience is key to getting good mpg on any trip. If you start with a good charge you can pull good numbers if you don't then the ICE has to run too much in the beginning to be able to recover the lost energy of driving and charging. :peelout: Good brake score as well considering all of the stop lights etc.. 1 corncobs reacted to this
fusionTX Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Been driving with all the windows down instead of using the AC and still getting 44 MPG. The terrain near my house is whats killing my numbers though, those hills suck. Still working to find the best route to and from work, not easy when I have to choose between hills, or stops and turns. In either case, 10 MPG more than the other one :victory: Not bad for just over 800 miles either.44 MPG seems like a very healthy number. I didn't buy my Fusion to obsess over milking the last MPG out of it. I am happy with the car and anything over 40 is great in my book. Glad your car is working out! 5 mokee, hybridbear, corncobs and 2 others reacted to this

Maybe earlier models had an issue but I have not had an issue with my gas tank. First click usually comes when there is about .5 more gallons to go.second click and it's full. Just like the manual says.

Rupert Report post Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) Hello people. I just got this car last Friday. I was reading these forums for a few months before I got the car. Thanks for all the great info. I was given very little information from the dealer on how to drive the car. After reading some posts on this forum, I was very worried about how the MPG would be in my car, but it's been very good so far. I've been getting mostly low to high 40s and even in the 50s. My round trip to work is about 17 miles. In my old car, it showed the round trip was closer to 19. I tend to get very low mileage (in the 20s) on the first part of short trips of a mile or less. However, this is evened out by the return trips which can be very high like 40s & up. I've seen a couple of these return trips in the 70s. My average MPG is 36.something but there were 16 miles on the car before I got it and the first day I drove it, I didn't know how to keep it in EV mode because I was new to all the screens and wasn't sure which one to use. I drove about 10 miles that day and I didn't see the EV indicator at all. The car was so quiet & the music so loud that I just assumed that I was mostly driving on electric. I'm going to reset the lifetime mileage after I do my first fill up. I was using EV+ and it quickly "found" my home. A few days ago, it found my job too. I think I'm going to turn off EV+ because the battery ends up being so low that the next time I start my car, I have to mostly use the ICE for the first mile or so. The electric motor can be reluctant to turn on even when the battery charge is well above 50%. Maybe it evens out in the end, I don't know. acdii Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Awesome even more proof that the Blue Devil was broken.OK I am home so here is the pic of that trip down 355 to Bolingbrook, speeds between 65 and 75, 39 miles Tollway, with AC on. Yep, this car CAN get 47 highway if driven Just Right! When I can get it in a zone its hitting 50, trouble is keeping it in the zone if there is traffic. Return trip was not as good but still take 43 MPG. WOOT! :happy feet: :shift:    2 thavil and gadgetguy reacted to this

How does the new one do on coasting? It drives just like the 2010 did, This one coasts well except when the battery is really low, but I am learning not to get the battery down that low and it is making a difference too. Looking forward to when it has a few 10K on it like the 10 did when I traded it in, should be in the low 50's by then. Just rolled over 1000 today. 1 gadgetguy reacted to this
rjent Report post Posted June 15, 2013 Honestly this car just never ceases to amaze me! i get 50 plus so often on short trips of 5 miles or more I don't even notice anymore. However, we are on a short retirement celebration trip of about 180 miles. We live at an altitude of 5000 feet and we climbed, steadily to 8000 feet of altitude to Ruidoso New Mexico. We got up here at 40 MPG. That is just astounding. Most of it at 65 MPH and about 20 miles at 55. My trip home using another route should be in excess of 50 and possibly 60. I have pictures which I will post as soon as I get the pics out of the camera and will post them here in this post. I couldn't be happier. Life is good in the Fusion lane ...... :) 5 gadgetguy, acdii, hybridbear and 2 others reacted to this

jeff_h Report post Posted June 15, 2013 The one good thing about going to my Mother-In-Law's house... each direction has some good spots to make for some great MPG, and much of it is rural road so plenty of space to get 100% braking. See center pic too, lifetime just hit 49.0, should be able to hit 50 unless a summer heat wave arrives and puts a kabosh on things. 3 gadgetguy, acdii and hybridbear reacted to this

gadgetguy Report post Posted June 15, 2013 Quick trip to the grocery store this morning. Left the house temps low 70's a little more than 1/4 charge on battery, no A/C windows down. Funny thing is apparently I used less than .1 gallons on the way there.... Trip back home. Still no A/C battery less than 1/4 and I do believe the grade on the trip home is more up than down lol. Was a little harder keeping it in EV and I am sure the lower battery charge had an effect on that as well. I'll take it! 1 jeff_h reacted to this

Maybe it evens out in the end, I don't know.Welcome to the Forum, glad you've found it helpful :) It'll be interesting to see if you find EV+ to be harming your overall MPGs. The theory is that because when the ICE turns on the first time it runs longer to heat up the emissions components so and if you start that trip with a full battery you won't get the most bang for your gas consumption. If EV+ runs the battery down then when you first start driving the car will charge the battery back up to somewhere between 50% & 75% before it shuts off the first time which gets the car ready for maximum efficiency. See center pic too, lifetime just hit 49.0, should be able to hit 50 unless a summer heat wave arrives and puts a kabosh on things. That's fantastic! I can't compete with Jeff's Lifetime because of our awful cold winters. That plus the two road trips we're doing. But I will almost catch up to you in miles. By the time we get back from our trip we'll have between 15,500 & 16,000 miles on our car we estimate. 1 gadgetguy reacted to this

I'm mostly looking forward to the handling/ride of the vehicle, but I'm resetting the tripometer before I leave, so I hope I'll have some good information to post once I get there. I'm expecting 33 and hoping 35 going up the mountain.I just got my lifetime to 40.6 this morning, I'm hoping that .6 will be enough to keep me above 40 lifetime by the time I get home. For some reason that number starting with a 4 feels more impressive than a 39.X.
rjent Report post Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) Well, I just had to update again. I am just blown away. One of the things I was worried about when purchasing this car, is that I live in a very mountainous part of New Mexico (as a lot of NM is ...). Historically, a "normal" car (Corvettes, F150's, Expeditions, etc) don't do well because they can't recover the energy coming back down after climbing. This Hybrid theory is all fine and dandy, but I need some proof. Today i got it. We left Ruidoso (8000 feet) traveled all the way back to the Tularosa Basin (4000 feet) and back, about 80 miles. We got 46.1 MPG. The eCVT worked flawlessly. I am an old trucker and am used to manually manipulating the transmission, be it automatic or manual, to control the hills. The eCVT (using the hill control button on the gearshift knob) kept the engine at about 4K rpms, never had to touch the brakes, battery was full in about 2 miles LOL, 10 percent grade, 40 miles or so of it, three runaway truck ramps, etc etc. Then, we turned onto US 70 and went back up the hill on another route and got back to the top and our condo. I was noticing that the overall mileage had climbed back to the 42 that we had been averaging. 46.1. Sorry no pictures (out of focus), you will just have to take my word for it, but I witnessed it. Absolutely amazing..... So far we are averaging 42 MPG and I still haven't gained the downhill run home yet ..... :) Edited June 16, 2013 by rjent 5 corncobs, gadgetguy, fusionTX and 2 others reacted to this

jsolan Report post Posted June 16, 2013 So after looking up the elevation difference, it's only 1000 ft from my house to my parents, but I travel up/down 2 other mountains before traveling up the final one they live on top of. Going down the other 2 mountains, the grade assist did not work as well as I had hoped it would. They're pretty steep hills and while the battery charged super quick, once the battery is fully charged it seems that the grade assist does not work as well. My speed increased 10mph and I had to ride the breaks for about half the mountain. I'll check the actual grades on the drive home. Overall the trip up was great though. I love the handling on the car. While my girlfriend would not let me take the curves as fast as I wanted, I did take them significantly faster than I should've. The power on this little 4 cylinder is super impressive too. I had to floor a couple of times, but when I did, it put out plenty of power to accelerate up the mountains. I tried my best to ignore the empower screen the whole trip and just drive it without gas mileage in mind. I'm sure my natural driving style of easy acceleration/breaking helps, but mileage was better than I expected. The trip computer said 38.8 mpg over 108 miles. Looking forward to showing it off to family now. 2 corncobs and hybridbear reacted to this
