Yesterday's commute home, actually to the gas station with 1/2 highway speeds.

The fill up this time was very close to what the computer showed. Same station and the same pump using the 2 click stop method and I actually pumped 11.71 and the computer shows 11.21 used so the .5 gal rule looks to hold true.The extra .5 gallons dropped mpg to 41.8 but I'm very happy with that. I estimate my city/hwy to be 50/50.

Here is this mornings commute. Started with ICE cold and battery about 3/4, 66 degrees and foggy, no A/C windows down moderate traffic.

My brake score has not been as good since I started taking the mostly city route because of idiot drivers and the last minute red lights that pop up lol. I do like watching people punch it to speed around me to end up sitting at the same lights I do with nothing gained haha...

I did not know the trip meter did stats like that Im going to start doing it now. I was just doing miles driven between fill ups and doing the math. Im sitting at 42.8mpg per tank right now. I have only filled up twice. Im sitting at 950 miles when I get it from dealer it had 33 miles on it. so each tank averages 450 miles. My morning fill up today was 10.6 gallons ,

Just got my FFH last friday night and I freaking LOVE it. My last car was a 306 HP Infiniti G35, and I used all of those ponies regularly, but somehow, my amazingly quiet and comfortable Hybrid is fulfilling my car cravings just fine. Now, its a real life video game to see what kind of MPG I can get. On the commute to work today, here in the-weather's-always-perfect-in-sunny-Southern-California, I did alright for a hybrid newbie I think:

aaronj how can u get that mpg with so few EV miles?..

Well. First of all my morning commute is quite downhill. That's why there's about a 16 MPG difference between morning and evening. But considering I'm going uphill on the highway on the return trip I'm not going to complain about 40 MPG either.

 

Next, I make sure to take it real easy when I'm accelerating up to speed. Not so much that it would be dangerous, but much easier than I would in a normal car. I use Eco-Cruise almost all the time when I'm driving above the EV threshold (63 MPH) and for my commute that's about 30 miles worth. I usually accelerate up to 40 MPH or so myself then kick in Eco-Cruise to do the rest of the accelerating up to 65 MPH. And I stay there. This is the max speed limit on the roads I travel daily so I'm not necessarily poking around and holding up traffic or anything.

 

Finally I'm starting to figure out how to plan when I can force the EV mode a little more and afford to do so. Meaning there's an on/off ramp that I take that's pretty lengthy, but has a steep downhill grade afterwards. I usually try to keep the car in EV mode as much as possible on the ramp while I'm slowly gaining speed, knowing that the car will use gravity and momentum to recharge the battery as I'm going down the hill, rather than the ICE. If I know I'm going to be going uphill or not gaining any recharge from the road, I don't force EV very much and save my battery because... even when you're not in full EV mode the electric motor can help out the ICE when going up hills or even just normal driving above the EV threshold. This is indicated by the down arrow on the battery symbol when driving, even when the EV mode isn't active. Nothing is worse on my MPG's than going uphill and finding that I have a low battery charge. So instead of the electric motor HELPING the ICE get up the hill, the ICE has to work a double shift to propel the car AND charge the battery.

as long as I feel that the low mpgs I'm getting are related to my learning curve and not truly something wrong with my car..(thinking about acdii' first car)..I can be ok with it for now.

My morning started out warm and muggy so the A/C is a must. Left the house it was 78 degrees at 6:30 and humid, ICE cold and battery less than 1/4 charged. Oh and don't forget all of these good numbers I am getting on tires running 37 psi cold pressure. The ride is much better at that pressure and it obviously has not had a negative impact on my mpg.

 

It's funny how this seems low and almost disappoints me hahahaha. I have gotten used to getting in the 50's on my morning commute.

Well....damn, and I though getting 45 this morning was good! OK now too embarrassed to post my measly 45. LOL

Haha... No way man that's still awesome! Just wait until it gets broken in. It truly does make a difference in this vehicle.

I think you are starting to see it "break in". I know mine improved by 2 to 3 MPG when I reach 1000 miles. I think it is improving with every 100 miles I drive so far.

So I drove "badly" (fast acceleration, somewhat hard braking due to people on bikes) and got some of the best numbers I've had yet.

 

Not sure why.

I was going to take a picture if/when I hit 70 mpg on my drive home, but today it was a pretty good day overall.

 

The drive to work is more uphill and that read over 40 MPG for the first time today, without trying very hard.

 

The drive home from work was pretty good. Not the best I've done, but pretty close.

.2 gal

 

 

I didn't set my tripometer this morning, so I'm not sure what my real mileage for the total trip was, but I'm pretty sure it was well over 50 MPG.

The trip pushed my lifetime avg over 40 (never reset) and the current tank avg over 45 as I put my 2000th mile on in 2 days short of a month of ownership.
