MPG Happy Talk

Recommended Posts

Looks like you got an extra good car. The best I managed was 40.5 MPG doing a steady 68 MPH on a beautiful Florida day.

45 is outstanding!

Yea seems like I4 is alot of flat land

This is very representative of what my mpg will be on a consistent basis. I achieve these numbers with great regularity, except the brake score. That's not representative of my norm at all, it represents the norm of the idiots  on the road who like to cut you off and slam on their brakes :stop: in traffic lol..

I am very happy :happy feet: with this being my consistent mpg considering there is 65-70 mph highway time involved!

Nice numbers; how much interstate travel at that speed is that?

I have to back to school "only" got 50.8 MPG and I'm joking btw. Difference between today and yesterday - less than a shot glad full!

It really is about prospective if I remember right it was a difference of 4 cents!!!

I would say approx 75 percent of that is speeds of 60 to 70. Occasionally I'll hit a slow section if there is a wreck but most of the time it's fairly free flowing traffic.

Haha and I really like your "only" numbers..

I have seen the same thing and that's why I check the trip meter before filling up to figure out how much gas I need to put back into the car.

I try to do the same thing. The dash number gives me an idea of where the pump should stop and if the pump stops early I put it back on for 3 or 4 more clicks so that I at least match the dash number. I've found the dash Lifetime Average to be very accurate to my Fuelly Average. I have not found my car to be off a few percent like others have. The MPG calculations on this car are more accurate than any other car I've owned.

Yesterday, I was trying to determine how to get my individual trips back up to 54-56 MPG. This week, I have been running the A/C constantly (non-negotiable factor with 90s temps and 90% humidity), doing more highway miles above 65-70 mph and in general, driving more.

I was watching the efficiency leaves falling away rapidly, as if someone was shaking my environmental tree vigorously. My recorded trips were getting only 50, 45, 48, 50 MPG. And then a realization dawned on me, what in the $@%#@ am I concerned about?? I am driving comfortably in a well air-conditioned vehicle that is beautiful, makes me enjoy driving again and the numbers that I was disappointed in, were actually pretty darn good. Beating EPA even still! I could not believe that it took me a week to realize this.

It is all a matter of perspective. Previously, I would get 14-20 MPG in my vehicles and kept filling up every 200-240 miles 1-2X a week. Kinda felt like that Geico motorcycle guy made out of money, just blowing cash all over the road. Now, I regularly get 51 MPG and fill up every other week after driving 550+ miles on a tank.

Bottom line? Being aware of the vehicle’s performance is important. It is good to know the factors involved – both good and bad. The people in this forum help tremendously to both report and inform each other. My hybrid education continues every week and a lot of gratitude is shared towards numerous posters. I continue to practice the things I have learned here, I will soon get a new shifter knob, and the mice playing ping-pong on my axle will be removed.

So, This morning, in near 100% humid conditions, I managed a “meager” 50 MPG and was HAPPY.

Here is one of my better short trips, started with a cold engine and ran almost 9 miles on local roads, doing speed limits of 35, 40, 45 & 50 along with traffic.

Today's commute home. Had to make a stop so I then reset it again for the trip home. Nice temps but windy. Had the windows down.

Here is my office to the first stop.

Here is from the stop to my house. Did hit some traffic close to home due to a wreck.

Not too bad!

Going in for my first oil change on Saturday. I like to get the break in oil out then I will run 10k.
