GrayStrider Report post Posted May 1, 2013 Ok, posting some great numbers on trips to visit my mom lately. It's 10.4 miles one way - mostly downhill, all surface streets with max speed of 50 mph, not many stop signs/lights. Ready for it? 97.6 MPG! The trip home: 30.4 MPG. That's 64 MPG average, baby!! Oh, and did I mention that I had the A/C on low during that trip? Amazing! :shift: :woohoo: Have also gotten 84.4 MPG on the same trip down, same time of day (early evening), and 79.5 MPG on another trip down. Always right around 30 MPG on the trip home. Wish I could get a whole tank with mileage like that!! 3 keybman, Da0ne and corncobs reacted to this
hybridbear Report post Posted May 1, 2013 This trip through the city took an hour in rush hour traffic but yielded great mileage Going home we were able to take our preferred route, going to the store we couldn't because of construction, and we got even higher mileage This is the current tank. We filled up on 4/21. It was cold (30s & 40s with snow/rain/strong wind) up until Friday the 26th. This summary also includes the dealer driving 1.4 miles and burning .12 gallons of fuel. If we take those miles away the tank is at 51.6 so far! Sadly this will be dropping quickly over the next few days. We're supposed to get 6-9 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow and then temps down to the 30s again for the next week. This tank will probably end up only around 45 MPG :( 3 gadgetguy, corncobs and keybman reacted to this

hybridbear Report post Posted May 2, 2013 Is that with the grill covers still on? Have they helped any? I still have the templates tucked away so I can make another set or 2. Yes. Even on the days that touched 80 degrees last weekend I kept the covers on without incident. Driving in the city even at those temps the engine didn't climb above about 93 C according to ET mode. Driving on highway I'm sure I'd need to take them off at those speeds. After driving today in the 35 degree rain/snow our tank average has dropped to 49.1. Very sad...but I'm sure the grille covers make a difference. The most noticeable difference is slowing the cooling of the engine when running in EV mode in the city. Thanks acdii!! I should comment that we all saw covers plural when it's only one grille cover for the main big grille. I have the one acdii made for the bottom but I haven't put it on since it is supposed to be spring. Apparently Mother Nature didn't get the memo... :headscratch: :angry22:
HenryVIII Report post Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) Okay someone at Ford needs to develop an app where we can capture the trip fuel economy screens and upload it onto our phones and devices to share online. Ford people reading this, make it so! I cannot post a "make it so" meme pic. :nonono: Edited May 2, 2013 by HenryVIII 1 gadgetguy reacted to this
gadgetguy Report post Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) Ok so first I want to say that this car keeps impressing me more and more everyday!! I apologize in advance for what's probably going to be a long post but I wanted to document it to compare against my old Civic which on this drive never got better than 36 mpg. I drove my FFH the same as I drove my Honda which is cruise set to 70-75 and occasionally 80 with the A/C on Auto at 70 degrees. The speeds for the whole trip ranged from 60 to 80 on the interstate and 30 to 45 on city streets. I had to go to our Dalton GA campus which is a 180 mile trip one way over the mountains. The highest point being Monteagle, TN. I was looking forward to this drive being the first long drive I have been able to take. I left and the temp was in the high 50's and quickly warmed up to what ended up being low 80's. Great day for a drive! The drive to Monteagle has the most continuous uphill grades of the entire trip and the mileage reflects that. The pic below is the first leg to Monteagle and I stopped at a rest area. Again the speeds were 65 to 75 up the mountain. The car handles awesome by the way!!! This pic is when I arrived at the campus in Dalton again speeds 60 to 75 This is a pic of when I filled the tank on my way back and keep in mind my lighter smaller 2010 Civic never got better than 36 mpg. My manual mpg calc was pretty much identical to what the computer reads. This is a pic after I filled up and the highway was fairly flat with the cruise set at 80 and it amazes me how this car is so damn smart and ECO Cruise works awesome. Look how it pulls in the battery to keep the mpg high until the battery level drops. This pic is with the cruise at 72 (had been running 75 but ran into traffic) and again the battery is in use to keep mpg high and my average has climbed from 37.7 to 41 and speed never dropped below the 72 you see in the pic. I noticed that with the battery level high it really uses the it efficiently at any speed to obtain the highest mpg. I finished the drive at home at a 43 mpg average I just didn't take a pic. I look in my rear view and look what has snuck up behind me.... As he passes I realize it's another Hybrid (he is doing over 80 lol) which is the only one I have seen other than mine. Anyway to finish this post considering I did nothing special on this drive I achieved great mpg IMO! Obviously had I been a little more attentive to fuel economy I could have done better but I wanted to compare to something I knew. I drove it like I always have and I am very, very impressed. I had plenty of power up the mountain grades and for passing and I think this car actually has great acceleration at any speed. The interior comfort was awesome and I was never uncomfortable! I have a longer drive next week down to our Daphne AL campus which is about 480 miles one way. I am going to try and make it on one tank but not sure I will be able to since I have to climb a fairly steep grade as I enter AL. Thanks for reading and I hope you find this helpful and maybe a little entertaining lol... Thanks for reading and I hope you find this helpful and maybe a little entertaining lol...Hi gagetguy really nice post! Glad you like the driving expierence more than the few miles you should get more per gallon. Yes it's not 47 but I rather drive a car that is a real drivers car instead of squeezing the last little gas drop out of the car while the handling or the power is like crap. And since we are in the Happy talk thread here is my happy picture of the day. We went for dinner with friends and on the way back to our hotel I got this 1 gadgetguy reacted to this
aaronj1159 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 My lifetime MPG in the car just hit 40.0. My daily commute average is usually up around 45 MPG these days as I drive the car more and the temperatures warm up a little. So I'm seeing that lifetime go up and up! For my type of driving, I couldn't be happier with these numbers. When I bought the car, I knew that my mountainous highway driving would keep my MPG down, but only about 2 MPG? I expected more like 7 or 8. And when I'm driving in town, I can regularly see in the 50's or 60's, I just don't do that as much. 4 hybridbear, gadgetguy, jeff_h and 1 other reacted to this
lolder Report post Posted May 2, 2013 Reset your "lifetime" mileage periodically otherwise it will become meaningless. The longer you don't reset it, the more it is locked "in stone". Resetting at oil changes is a good time. Record the last intervals mileage in your maintenance log. Reset the AVG. fuel economy at fill-ups. Arrange all the measurements so you have long term and short views. 2 hybridbear and gadgetguy reacted to this

I love this car and it is a joy to drive and I agree with you 100%. Considering I am doing better than my Civic ever did (city and highway) I am very pleased I am going to be a little more conservative on my next long trip to see how that goes! AmpedFFH Report post Posted May 2, 2013 We just picked up our FFH Titanium on 4/31. I was concerned about MPGs because of some peoples' experiences. Well I'm happy to report that my wife's commute to work she is averaging 43 MPG. We have had really nice weather, but she (nor I) have ever owned a hybrid, and she is somewhat of an aggressive driver (brakes late, jumps in and out of lanes). I was worried about how well she would do. I've read these forums, looked at hybrid driving tips, etc., but I only got 37.7 mpg (similar to her commute) when I picked it up from the dealer. Her commute is probably perfect for a hybrid, She rarely gets over 60mph and the average speed will probably end up around 30mph with all the traffic and stoplights. I like the Titanium, but with these numbers I'm just upset I had to wait so long. Wow 43 mpg - her previous SUV was getting 17 or 18 mpg. I hope the numbers increase as the car breaks in and ev+ starts kicking in, but as it is these numbers are better then I expected. 4 tombarker13ffh, keybman, hybridbear and 1 other reacted to this

neod192 Report post Posted May 3, 2013 Well, I think this is as good as it's going to get with my commute. I inflated the tires to 44 PSI and it seems to coast more, but the MPG won't get above 45 (not really complaining). I'm going 50-45 for half of my commute and 35 the other half. The 35 MPH half has lots of lights and stops. By the time I get to cruising speed, I have to stop because the light ahead just turned red ... 4 hybridbear, keybman, corncobs and 1 other reacted to this
gadgetguy Report post Posted May 3, 2013 Just a few random pics from some short trips and the best MPG yet for my morning commute.. Commute from work yesterday to the soccer field where my wife volunteer coaches a U6 girls team for the city.. Short trip home after eating... Trip last night to pick up my son. Started with engine not completely warmed up after sitting awhile. Today's morning commute. I have been using remote start to make sure the engine is warmed. Best morning commute MPG yet!! I have seen a dramatic increase in MPG since the weather has warmed so that is a definite plus. I have also seen improvement my making sure the ICE is warm and keeping the battery charged as much as possible. My driving style is starting to become second nature now and i don't have to watch the gauges as much. I have a good feel for the car! Bottom line this car is AWESOME!!!! 4 corncobs, hybridbear, rjent and 1 other reacted to this
