Yah Think?

Recommended Posts

I have been contacted by someone, not going to go into details, but I need to hang onto this car for at least a year or so until such time and something gets settled, but my chance to give Ford what they have coming.

So what I'm hearing is there is a big lawsuit about to hit Ford. Is that what you're saying?

And there it is. Hopefully I get my car and it gets 38+ mpg and I get a big cash settlement out of it too, haha. I'm not really worried about 47mpg, I'd be thrilled with low 40's. And then if I can get some money back on top of that, then it's all gravy.

Took my car in yesterday to again complain about the poor MPG. I took it in at about 2000 miles (36 MPG lifetime) and was told that it needed to be broken in better to get the MPGs up so they said drive it to 6000 miles and see if it improves. Now the car is at 5700 miles, still at about 36 MPG lifetime and Ford's answer is ..... wait for it.... drive it until 10000 miles until it's really broken in and see if the mileage improves. So I asked the service manager - is this coming from Ford? And he said yes. Remember Ford - the company that has almost 500 patents for hybrid technology and they can't figure out why some cars can't get the mileage other than blame the driver.

I looked at the shutters today while I was waiting for my wife and they were closed. Going to see if I can pick up some thin lexan and make a grill cover, see if it helps any. Today was a good day, car was toasty warm, finally, gas mileage was up 4 MPG, and my feet were warm. Its hovering around 36 MPG now so the trip is up by 2 MPG over previous tanks. I am being a bit more aggressive with the throttle, maybe I have been too lax, and it doesn't like it. Still not up to where it should be when compared to the other hybrids, but still a bit better than it has been.

Got a note from Trina, and finally got my case number and should hear something soon from them over my concerns, which basically is, still no answer as to the fouled plugs, the way it has to be driven to get 40 MPG is unsafe, and unrealistic, and my road tests of other Fusion/Cmax confirmed that I dont have to drive like that to get 40 MPG.

Keeping fingers crossed this can be resolved.

There has to be something wrong with the car to get that low mileage. I normally don't drive it, (my wife does) but today I did get to drive the 30 trip to work. It was on Interstate highways mostly and all during rush hour traffic. I did not do anything special other than keep up with traffic. Speeds ranged from 10 mph to 75 mph. There was an accident that slowed down a portion of the drive. Most of the trip was between 55 and 70. It told me I got 45 MPG on my morning commute. Oh yes, it was 22 degrees this morning, I consider that pretty cold. On my "engage" view it tells me that the car gets 40.6 average and the lifetime when you shut it off is 38.9. I think that is low because when I picked it up it had a lifetime average of 6 mpg and I didn't reset it. I don't understand this. Can someone explain to me why it tells me that lifetime is 38.9 and "engage" says 40.6 average. Shouldn't they be the same? I know I am not getting 47 but am very satistified with the mileage I am getting. It is much better than the 25 I got in the previous car.

Again, in the 2010-12 FFH, there are 6 different fuel use calculations.

1) "Long Term Fuel Economy" is displayed on the trip summary at shutdown. It is re-settable in the set up menu. It need not be "lifetime". The longer you don't reset it, the less information it provides. I reset mine at 10,000 mile oil changes and record in the maintenance log the mpg of the previous interval.

2) "Trip Summary - Fuel Economy" is displayed on shutdown and is self explanatory

3) " Avg. MPG" displayed on the dash is re-settable. I usually do it at tank-up

4) The instantaneous "MPG" gauge is self explanatory.

5) The selectable "Bar Graphs" give you short term mpg.

6) "miles to E" on the dash is calculated from the last 500 miles and an algorithm that can play catch up to predict when you will have about 1 gallon left in the tank . The algorithm comes into play when your fuel economy varies a lot near the end of the tank of gas.

All these calculations ARE DIFFERENT and give you enormous data on performance. I recommend operating them as I do.

I think the 2013 FFH has very similar features.
