Ford Fusion Hybrid - undocumented features

Recommended Posts

So, I was wondering ... has anybody compiled a list of "undocumented features" for the Ford Fusion Hybrid models?

For example:

*Air circulation - force stay on

Hold the "air circulation" button for five seconds when turning on to force it to circulate air until the car is shut off

*Regenerative braking - force use of regenerative braking only (no friction brakes)

To force the vehicle to only use regenerative brakes, push the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal simultaneously

If anybody has seen lists like the ones above, please reply and share. On the other hand, if you know of an "undocumented feature" and have not seen it posted anywhere, please reply as well and let the rest of us know.

When do you press the break and accelerator at the same time? I assume before putting in gear for a drive? And is it something that must be done every restart of the vehicle?

If you were to force regenerative braking, you would be pretty much guaranteed to rear end someone within a week. This would be a bad (stupid) idea.

For constant air circulation, just turn the fan on without the system being in Auto.

Agree. Why in the world would you only want regenerative braking. If this is possible sounds like a lawsuit in the making. "I stepped on the brake but could not stop."

In an eCVT hybrid, if you step on the brake while pressing the accelerator in "D", the ICE will die. I doubt you can ever force "only" regen.

force regen braking only :hysterical:

Okay, so that undocumented feature I've read about "somewhere on the Internet" does not exist. Yes, it probably is a bad idea, but that's not the point of this thread. ;)

Does anybody know of any additional "undocumented features"?

As acdii mentioned somewhere, when you hold the left side OK button down then turn the switch to Run mode, the display jumps into a "technician" mode. Displays a bunch of stuff as you scroll down or up with the arrows. One thing is the engine temperature (coolant) in centigrade. Mine was 87 degrees after a stop when I tried it (188 F). I would be very careful with this feature as it appears you may be able to change settings that would not wish to be changed. This mode goes off when you turn the switch off and then restart.

If anyone knows how to translate all these undocumented settings maybe it would be harmless but I won't be trying any changes.

Its a diagnostic screen, so no worries, nothing can be changed using it. In the F150 there was one mode that would flash the center screen in a psychedelic fashion. Was fun to watch, and hypnotic too.

Here's another rarely heard of or thought of feature in the 2013 Fusion.

Pull-Drift Compensation is another element here in the 2013 model, it working with your electric power-assisted steering in the vehicle to avoid the negative effects of steeply crowned roads as well as steady crosswinds. This system is able to change the direction of the car if it senses the car drifting off the road, and uses EPAS to provide gradual steering corrections to make sure the car is going the direction the driver wants.

I read on the internets that if you get the car up to 88 mph in EV+ mode and then press the left and right OK buttons, you will go back in time based on the song that's playing on the Sirius radio station in the MFT display.

I really like the cruise feature: I can start out, turn cruise on, set to the desired speed and let it go. Takes you to the speed you selected.

Yeah, I use this sometimes too. Helps me accelerate nice and smoothly without much effort.

what is EV+ mode is different than EV mode..what I know is that on EV you go up to 47mph only.

EV+ mode "learns" the driver's frequent destinations in order to boost fuel efficiency. Using GPS data from Ford Sync, the computerized feature automatically adjusts powertrain controls based on location to deliver more electric-only driving.

Here's an undocumented "feature", the AC compressor can turn on and off while the HVAC mode is on Automatic. To disable this so that the AC isn't turned on automatically, choose a vent direction. This is on 2013s, I'm not sure about 2014s...
