2013 FFH poor build quality

Recommended Posts

Too bad you couldnt ask about the poor gas mileage in some of these and what they are doing to resolve it.

Mine has 2 build quality issues I've noticed so far:
1) A slight misaligment of the trunk lid
2) some rattling on the rear, driver side door.

#2 comes and goes and I suspect it is something on the weather stripping around the door. Basically, it seems to consistenly disappear when the rain is heaviest. And, the other day, it came out completely silent from a car wash. Only to come back 1/2 hour later, after somebody opened that door.

Somebody in one of these forums reported a similar rattling, eventually tracked down by the owner to some black plastic pieces fitted to backside of the exterior door handles. It could be that too. I looked, didn't see anything wrong, but I wasn't sure what to look for.

There's only SO MUCH you can hit'em with at one time. Nothing the person on the show floor could do about it anyway. Strategically, I thought it more important to be the good cop.

acdii, do you have any plans to head down to McCormick Place for the Chicago Auto Show this week and look at the FFH and MKZH? Maybe you can find a Ford rep to discuss bad thermostats and poor MPG.

I have given it some thought, but first want to give Ford a chance to actually look at the car first. If they come back negative on it, I may take a trip there and see if I can raise Cain.

I dont know if Ford thinks I am looking to cash out on them, but all I have ever asked for is to either fix my car, or replace it with one that works, and I will be more than happy to pay for the miles I drove it. As long as it is replaced with the same or better, if better I will pay the balance too.

Just got back from the MotorTrend Auto Show in Baltimore and spoke to some of the Ford reps there. Turns out that Ford has been sending both Fusions and MKZs to Flat Rock for quality inspections due to problems in Hermisillo. Evidently production scheduling was stopped for 3 or so weeks due to quality problems which have now been corrected.

I was there as well. Made a case for more HyTi wheel selection and HIDs also.

Lets hope they listen. Too bad it'll be too late for us this time.

More bad news...CEL is back on today. The Vehicle Health Report says that the PCM has detected a fault with the evaporative emission control system. I made an appt to bring car to Ford this afternoon and they'll provide a rental loaner again.

At least I'm getting my warranty money out of Ford!!

My parents really got their money out of their extended warranty on their 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan. Chrysler paid for 2 replacement transmissions and a number of other defects with that car.

I feel like buying the Fusion so early was a bad idea. Maybe we should have bought the Camry instead, even though it gets worse gas mileage, is ugly and uncomfortable. I'm not at all a fan of Toyota, but I expect better quality in $31,000 car than what we have. Very disappointed in Ford.

So now that we have our car back we learned something about the fuel filler neck with its valves...watch out for that area with snow.

No snow here and my 'Check fuel filler' warning came on today. Tried the funnel in the trunk to clear it, no joy.

Guess I'll be back at the Dealer's.

I'm just curious. Is the misalignment where the brake lights meet on the back top left of the trunk? I noticed that in a lot of the fusions I looked at.

There is a similar thread in the Fusion Forum on this, in post #15 I linked to a couple videos and wondered if this was going to be a common thing as compared to the 2010-2012 models.

Let us know what caused it for you...the dealer told me that this warning indicates that something is preventing one of the valves in that system from closing. I wonder what would do that in Cali

Our misalignment is not what's referenced above. Our misalignment is that when the trunk is closed the right side sticks out a bit and if you run your hand across where the trunk meets the bumper the left side is flush, but on the right side the trunk sticks out and is not flush

Mine seems to be more similar to yours than what I've seen in that referenced thread. In my case the gap looks bigger on the right (passenger) side. It is more visible from a 3/4 viewpoint than straight from the back. I think the right side of the trunk lid on mine both sticks out a bit more and has a slightly larger gap.

The 2 halfs of the taillights on both sides actually align fairly well, better than the trunk lid. In fact, to achieve that (well, I don't know what is cause, what is consequence), on the rght side, the piece of taillight attached to the trunk lid seems to be slightly misaligned to the trunk lid itself, but well aligned to its other half. That taillight alignment is pretty tight. There is hardly any gap.

Well now that I know how to achieve at least 40 MPG in my new one, and that the only problem that is wrong with the car is you have to drive it VERY slowly if you want to get that, I am probably going to jump ship now and go to Toyota. If we can swing it, we may get the Avalon Hybrid. At the very least when we drive that car, it will get at or near the EPA ratings, without having to do extreme Pulse and Glide and risk road rage incidences on the way to and from work, just to get what we can get in our 2010 with just normal driving.

Considering making a video that shows how to obtain 40 MPG in the new Fusion, so that others can see how its done. It may steer people away from this car, but at least they will be informed before they get robbed.

acdii,

I've had my 13' FFH for almost two months and have now put almost 2,500 miles on it and averaging 41.5mpg. I drive exactly like I always have and haven't made any adjustments.

My DD before this was a 5 speed Mustang GT and I drove it how a Mustang was meant to be driven.. agressive...

Now I live in Phoenix and the vast majority of my driving is city stop and go driving, so naturally the EV mode is on a ton on my FFH.

Care to elaborate?

I feel that Titanium trim levels should have HIDs and nicer looking base wheels. But it seems like they may be trying to differentiate between Lincoln and Ford in this regard.

That's kind of off base acdii. You are having trouble achieving 40 MPG, not the rest of us. And it's a one-car issue, not a mass issue. You need to keep pressuring Ford and the dealer to get it resolved. Have you tried calling Ford Customer Service?

Your comments about steering ppl away before they get robbed are completely untrue.

Yes, Acdii is painting all of our cars with very wide brush. I get excellent ,mileage with mine day in and day out and that's taking into consideration the fact that it's Winter. I've had no issues at all, except for the wrong shift knob. Ford has quickly acknowledged the error and is fixing it. I, for one, am tired of coming to these forms and seeing them dominated about Acdii and his problems....so I'm out of here.

Hopefully you are sharing your MPG numbers of Fuelly to help bring up the average.

Hopefully you won't let one dominant person turn you off from the forum which can otherwise provide lots of useful information.
