What should I charge for Consulting?

I got a call from my salesperson the other evening.

'We have a lady here who has had her hybrid in the shop for two weeks for body work after an accident. She returned her rental but when she tried to drive off, her hybrid was dead. I figured if anyone could tell us where to start looking in would be my expert on his own hybrid. What do you think?'

 

I told them to start with the high voltage and fuel cutoff switches as shown in the owners manuals pages so and so.

 

I didn't hear anything further. I'm thinking of sending them a gag invoice. How about $125/hr?

When the salesman called and said he wanted some info, you should have said "well hold on, I need to go run this by my manager".... then come back and tell him that your normal cost is to get an extended warranty out of the deal, but that 'you have a special running right now' and the cost is just a 30k service.

Scary dealership. Certainly one to avoid if they have to rely on a customer to fix problems with the cars that they sell. Unless terryb is a genius mechanic who can fix super complicated issues which sounds like he is! $125 seems totally reasonable. :worship:
