Ric Report post Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) Receiving this alert message when I shut it off: "Battery Power Saver System Off". This only happens sometimes and displays on the 8 inch screen. The message appears and then what appears to be a download bar goes across the screen and then the screen blacks out. Is this something I should get checked out or do I have a setting wrong? Going in on Thursday for the MFT update. Edited January 1, 2013 by Ric
terryb Report post Posted January 2, 2013 This is the load shedding system message googled it and you may have a charging system problem. It may also be that the shedding system is just telling you that it is turning of electrical loads.
B25Nut Report post Posted January 2, 2013 I've had this appear several times when I would spend time in my garage learning MFT and/or changing options. I think it is just a way of the car telling you it has been on the battery long enough and the bar is giving you the countdown to seconds to cutoff. I've just turned the key off and turned it back on again to get everything functioning again. I do call it a day, however, if the reading on the HV battery is very low, although cycling the key again will start the ICE, which charges the battery in about two minutes. acdii Report post Posted January 3, 2013 Depends on the voltage of the battery. Fully charged you get about 15 minutes of play time before it appears, when the battery is run down from sitting a long time, like at the dealer lot, it can come on right away. I was in a Focus today that did just that.

acdii Report post Posted April 4, 2013 This? Same thing happened on mine. Whats even weirder is the HVB was showing totally discharged. Its OK now, at least as OK as this one can be.
rvlasek Report post Posted April 4, 2013 That's exactly what I'm getting, you said OK< did you have something changed a setting or service done, or did just go away???
acdii Report post Posted April 4, 2013 Thankfully the car started and I drove it a bit and looks like it charged everything up OK.
rvlasek Report post Posted April 4, 2013 So you feel it is normal not a service issue....
acdii Report post Posted April 4, 2013 no, it isnt normal. On my car, I really dont care since I am not keeping it, I will just let the service guy know when I trade it in that it has a weak 12V battery. On yours I would have it load tested. If you have the tools and a second vehicle, pull it out and take it to autozone, or advanced or Napa and have them load test the battery. If you take it to the dealer, most likely it will sit all day they will throw a charge on it and give it back to you. Looks like that was done to a couple other owners here. murphy Report post Posted April 4, 2013 Or get one of these http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP7612-Battery-Load-Tester/dp/B0009XQUJI/ref=sr_1_3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1365081231&sr=1-3&keywords=battery+load+tester and test it yourself. A good battery should be able to stay above 11 volts with a 100 amp load on it for 10 seconds.
acdii Report post Posted April 4, 2013 I have one of these, havent tried it yet, but I could. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-YA271-Battery-Alternator-Tester-Load-Tester-FREE-SHIPPING-/230941606258?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222001%26algo%3DSIC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14625%26meid%3D6727963055116227589%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D271173792541%

I took mine to the dealer for other issues and also complained about this warning screen and had my battery by Ford, they do a 45 min. test, both under load and then charging up and load testing again. They did this test on two occasions and the battery tested fine. I still got the message for weeks after that. Next I did the battery tender hook up, it took 16 hours to bring the battery up to full (green light). After that I hooked the tender up every day and after a few days it would "green light" after only two hours, meaning my battery was doing better, so I thought. Now I'm not sure what is normal or what's going on with the battery and charging system. Without "tending" the battery overnight it drops to 11.3 volts by morning. BUT! as soon as I turn the key to the on position it shows the system is getting 14.45 volts because the HVB is sending juice to the 12V. I don't get the battery saver system off message anymore either. So it seems like there are more questions than answers!
hermans Report post Posted April 5, 2013 There is definitely issues with these 12v batteries. You should not have to put a battery tender on the battery of new cars. Especially if they are daily drivers. Ford needs to address this.
acdii Report post Posted April 5, 2013 Yeah, I can understand it when you first get the car, especially if it sat for a while, but not after driven a few hundred miles, unless they were short trips with lots of key action. If the battery is OK, it would peak charge after at least 30 miles of driving, or an hour of key on. However, thought just occurred to me, it is possible that the charging circuit is the weak link. There is a slight chance that it cant keep up with demand on the smaller battery, those with the larger battery would be OK, until the load on it exceeds the charge, which will happen in the summer with max AC on. Something to keep watch on.
Kaleido Report post Posted April 5, 2013 Yeah, I do the short trip thing, my day usually is 3 miles, park for an hour, drive 5 miles & park for an hour, drive 3 miles & park for 3 hours, drive 6 miles and park overnight. I didn't know this would be a problem when I bought the car. That's why I sold my 2009 VW TDI Jetta with 60,000 miles and 4 years on it. The Cat and other exhaust / emission filters clogged up and had to be replaced (under warranty this time). Next time it would be at my expense at around $6000! This was all due to my not driving at highway speeds and only doing short trips. Maybe I should buy a 1956 Ford next time! Ha!

Go take it on a nice hour long road trip, that should get that battery charged.
B25Nut Report post Posted April 5, 2013 It's been almost two weeks since my dealer charged my battery and the BS message has not appeared again. I did discover last month that I accidentally had the overhead passenger light set to on. I think it automatically turns off after a preset time, but it can go unnoticed when you stop during the day. I had that happen a couple times too. They satay on too long after you open and close a door that you dont realize that one is on until the next morning. Good thing they are LED, so they use very little energy.
Ella Report post Posted January 23, 2021 I have a 2013 Ford Fusion had to replace battery 2 times I do get message on screen saying battery saver off. I don't drive this everyday maybe once a wk but do start it up. Had to charge it with a charger to many times. Ford said it needs to be driven more that's why thus is happening. Very disappointed with the car I use to enjoy. Will be selling as soon as it's paid off and new title comes.
