My Ford Touch Update

Recommended Posts

My car, built on 11/17, came with the 3.5.1 version. I've been putting it through the paces and have yet to find an issue so far.

I contacted SYNC regarding this upgrade: Here's the chat.

Please wait for a SYNC Agent to respond.
Nick says:
Hello Fred. My name is Nick how can I help you?
Fred says:
Hi Nick. I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid. It has version 3.2.2. I understand there is a new version 3.5.1?
Nick says:
I am happy to answer that. You are correct about the software. Do you have the navigation SD option?
Fred says:
Yes, we have NAV
Nick says:
For owners with that option, the update will be availble sometime during this month. You will have to request a new SD card be mailed to you from the SYNC website.
Nick says:
The update is available at the dealer now.
Fred says:
Terrific, I have an appointment at the dealer for Monday. They told me they can upgrade to the new version and do have the SD Cards.
Nick says:
That will work perfectly.

I got mine updated last Thursday with the 3.5.1 and the A4 SD card. It still doesn't understand my voice imputs into NAV very well.

Mine's at the dealership right now to get the A4 Nav chip and update to 3.5.1 (the car had the A3 chip and v. 3.2.2 when we picked it up on November 28). Problem is, we were told the local dealership could do it when I called them and explained what I wanted to do (we purchased the car at a dealership 30+ minutes from here as the local one didn't have any more hybrids in stock) - yet they then call and tell me I need to take it to the dealership where we purchased it to get the A4 card, it will cost $269 if we get it from the local dealership. Then they called right back and said they'd call Ford and see if they can do it without cost. They haven't called back, it's been almost 1.5 hours, so I'm assuming they got the ok to do it and are doing the update. If they get this right, we'll probably go there for our regular service, as they're only about 5 miles away.

How do you know the exact build date? Ours arrived at the dealership on November 26. It was a dealer-ordered vehicle.

My local dealer (Paso Robles Ford) took care of all the updates n/c even though I didn't purchase my Fusion from them.

Run your VIN through this link to get your build date.

My 2010 Fusion is Sterling Grey - my 2013 is Bordeaux Reserve with Dune leather.

GrayStrider..... Where in So Cal are you? There should be NO charge for the update regardless of the dealership you take it to or where you bought the car from. They are full of BS.....Any A4 cards they order or any update labor for the upgrade are reimbursed to them by Ford.....Don't let them bend you over......

I do not see Ford CS reps on this forum, but on the other forum I frequent, there are several Ford CS reps and a rep from the IVT team...if a customer were to post that a dealership was trying to charge them for the upgrade, the CS rep or IVT rep would contact the dealer direct and straighten their ass up.......

cnsheets, I'm in the Inland Empire. Amazing how long this process took. Dropped it off around 12:30 pm on 1/2/13. After a few phone calls, and no call back to tell me how things were going, decided to go over at 5:30 pm to pick it up, and it wasn't finished yet. Service advisor said they had to get 'special permission' from Ford to give me an A4 Nav card at no cost. So, had to drop it off again today for them to finish things up - but it's finally got the update and new Nav card. Should have just driven out to Ontario where we bought it - would have had it done in one day. Did notice that MFT seems to be a bit more responsive to the touch, and I like the additional screen to see why the engine is running. Changed from Engage to Empower mode for a bit to try that out. I find Empower makes me be more concious of my acceleration as this is our first hybrid vehicle. Wish it had a front park assist on it - I have great difficulty knowing where the front of my car is when I park (too used to my Saturn VUE).

Thanks for the link - ours has a build date of 6/11/12. One of the very first builds? Curious, need to research it now...

If you got that from ETIS the build date is actually 11/6/2012. They didn't start building cars until August 10th.

How do you find the MFT version? I just picked mine up 27 Dec. etis reports the build date as 7.12.2012. Dec 7th? Anyway, I do have nav and I also have the fuel/battery flow diagram view from the leaves icon.

Version 3.5.1 has the fuel/battery flow diagram. I have ver 3.2.2, which does not have the fuel/battery flow diagram. I believe you have the latest 3.5.1 version. Mine is being upgraded on Monday.

I don't think I'm going to be using the new energy flow schematic, so I'm not too sure the update was worth it. I had to reload my pictures and redo most of my settings. I haven't noticed any difference in the way the update operates.

Least of my worries at this time. With no problem found on why the plugs fouled, and Ford basically said, let the customer drive it and see if it happens again, not too thrilled with FoMoCo at this moment.

No surprise there......sounds like what I hear with my explorer..... did they atleast replace the plugs or just wipe them off and put them back?

They replaced them. Going to drive it a few days and pull one myself and see if they are getting fouled.

My FFH was delivered on 12/12/12 with the A4 card and 3.5.1.

I still know less than I should about MFT but having entered all my Nav destinations I found out accidently that they were on the Sim card.

I removed it and the Console flashed a message telling me that I had a 'Nav SD Card Fault, please replace the card', or something similar to that.

Could it be they offloaded many of the Nav resources to the SD card making room for the new items in MFT, like the Hybrid button?

It is interesting to watch the different systems come and go on that Hybrid screen, with explanations.

Of course watching all the pinball action on the console is not exactly something one needs to do in traffic.....

They moved the NAV from a DVD/harddrive configuration to the flash card. My 2010 uses a hard drive to store the nav data, it also has the jukebox, which the new ones no longer have. Silly when you think about it though, you can plug in a 32Gb USB drive with thousands of songs, so why bother copying your CD's to the car.

Strange that my dealer cant find the updates for mine.

i had a question for when I get my Hybrid Titanium (which will probably be in 2016 at this rate). With the My Ford Touch voice commands, is there a way to turn off the "Please Say A Command" prompt and just have it give a chime or something? I'm thinking once I start using that a lot I'll get really sick of having to wait for the voice to say "Please Say A Command" when it could just give a quick beep and let me say what I want it to do.
