2007 Audio Controls

Just got an 07 and when first starting up the car, if i try to change from cd to radio or vice versa (steering wheel/cd player), skip to the next track/station (steering wheel/cd player), or use the volume button (steering wheel only)i get the "line in" message on my cd display. I have the factory cd player. However after about 5 - 10 minutes of driving, I am able to control the unit properly with the exception that the skip foward button on the steering wheel increases the volume and the skip backward button on the steering wheel changes to the next track/station. Any ideas on what can be done to fix this issue?

Sounds like the clock spring in the steering wheel.

so the steering wheel clock spring would affect both the steering wheel controls and stereo controls?

The wiring that runs up through the steering column can be affected by a bad clock spring. This includes the cruise control as well as the turn signals and horn. It can also trigger an airbag warning light.

So if this issue is fixed with the clock spring, then the controls on the stereo itself will also work correctly then?

Sorry - I thought it only messed up using the steering wheel controls. It's possible the clock spring is sending signals to the radio and that's causing the head unit controls not to work, but I can't say for sure. If you could disconnect the steering wheel controls then you would know for sure but i don't know which connector to unplug. But the clockspring is the typical cause of the problem where the steering wheel controls do strange things.
