sledhead Report post Posted September 11, 2010 I have a '10 SEL with the sport appearance pkg which includes the 225/45R18 rims and tires. I would hate to have the winter salt to ruin the rims and am in the process of looking for plain black rims and winter tires. A narrower tire would be better suited for the snow and was wondering what my rim size options would be. Any input appreciated.

For winter I use 205/60R16, with boring black steel rims. Could also have gone to 225/50R17. Basically if you look at the specs of the Fusion S and SE/SEL (without Sport appearance) you see these sizes fit. Tirerack.com also confirms it. And I ran it by the dealer to be sure too! :)

This is the issue i'm concerned with - computer reading wrong speed resulting in improper shifting, poor fuel mileage, etc. Have you experienced any driveability issues? Hi sledhead. :D Your "original tire" specs are way off. It would seem that there was an error in the "original tire" size calculations or an incorrect number was plugged into the calculations. Here are the correct numbers for each of the three sizes Moosehead mentioned (as you will notice, your source calculates to the hundredth of an inch and mine rounds to the tenth of an inch, but the numbers are close enough for comparison): First, the actual difference in the speedometer and odometer will only be 1.1% too fast with the 225/45-18 versus 205/60-16 tires. So if your speedometer reads 60 mph, you will actually be traveling 59.3 mph. All the detailed specs are as follows: 225/45-18 (your original tire)Sidewall: 4.0"Radius: 13" Diameter: 26"Circumference 81.6"Revs per mile: 777 205/60-15Sidewall:4.8"Radius: 12.8"Diameter: 25.7"Circumference: 80.7"Revs per mile: 785 225/50-17Sidewall: 4.4"Radius: 12.9"Diameter: 25.9Circumference: 81.2"Revs per mile: 780 You can obtain the sizing specs listed above here: LINK: Tire Size Calculator I am not sure where you obtained yours from. As you can see, the differences in the specs for those three tire sizes are negligible. The tire sizes mentioned by Moosehead are the correct sizes for the Fusion and completely interchangeable. In fact the 205/60-16 is the standard tire on the S. The 225/50-17 is standard on the SEL and as you know the 225/45-18 is standard on the Sport and SEL with Sports Appearance Package. And there are no differences in speedometer or odometer programming between the different models, since the size differentials are negligible. Hope this information helps. Good luck. :beerchug: Edited September 12, 2010 by bbf2530
