Geeves Report post Posted August 9, 2010 I ordered the sport lower grill and chrome surround. It didn't cost as much as i thought it would. The parts are on order so I have not got into removing the old one. I was just wondering if any one else has done this and if their were any tricks on getting the old one out or do i need to remove the bumper cover. Thanks

2010 Sport Blue SEL Report post Posted August 18, 2010 Got my lower sport grill in today. Ill let you know how it goes.Greeves, It looks pretty simple to remove and install. I had to attach one side of the lower grille because the body shop missed a tab, all I had to do is push and hook it. Remove the front air shield, screws and push studs. The tabs I could see were "slip under" hook style. My advise is to be careful, they look fragile if bent too far. Good luck.

Thanks i see the tab but i soon realized that i need to remove the chrome bits from the front of the car via tabs and to get the black grill out i either need to remove bumper cover or pull it out just enough to get it out. I was under the car looking at the work after an accident and it looked like a whole lot of screws on the under side to get the bumper cover off, not sure beyond that. Once again good luck. autoxr1 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 I'm new to the fusion scene, what does the sport lower grill look like compared to my SE? You could check the Fusion pix on the Ford website: Fusion Gallery The Sport front styling was clearly influenced by Ford's Australian Falcon. That's where I got the idea to paint my fog light surround bezels.

Geeves Report post Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) "autoxr1" Someone asked how I did it in another thread, so posting here in Exterior Mods. I started by hunting for a suitable color. I wanted to try to match the titanium metallic shade that is found on the lower rear valence of the Sport (similar shade on the steering wheel). This is warmer than a standard silver metallic. I found a shade of Rustoleum Professional Enamel at Home Depot called Stainless Steel (#7519) that appeared to have the look I wanted. It turned out to be a good match -- has some gold metalflake in it. Also complemented my dark chrome which is on the warm side. I did not remove the fog lights to paint them. Just put the front of the car on jack stands to get it up to working height, and then masked around the bezel portion that I wanted painted. The curves are tough to follow with the edge of the masking tape, so I covered the whole bezel to surround intersection and then used an X-Acto knife to trim away the extra tape. I also covered the whole front of the car with newspaper to protect against overspray. The paint was on the thin side, so I hit it with 6 - 8 coats to get the color I wanted and hide all the black. It dried to a satin finish rather than high gloss, which I consider an added bonus. I did not clear-coat it, as I like the present finish and figure that Rustoleum should hold up to the elements.
